What are the friction points that keep the chest plate cover/head box cover closed in Defender's robot mode?

It doesn't seem to be the top - there's too much of a gap.

If it were the sides, everyone's would wear down over time.

There doesn't seem to be a notch on the bottom.

Is it a mechanism in the larger chest piece? I don't hear any clicks or feel any resistance on the pin.

Thanks! So the plate that covers the head when it goes in the head-box for the alt mode should not be flush with the rest of the chest in bot-mode?
