Just watched the new movie, but I'm confused....what actually killed the aliens? Did Ray's grenade start a chain reaction that killed their defenses???? Did the birds kill them? Earth's atmosphere? Human blood? I'm a tad lost on it....
They got sick because of out somewhat tainted atmosphere, I think. Something like that; something to do with pollution and or disease and the aliens not being used to our "impure" earth... Hopefully someone will give you a much better explanation than me.
Didn't Morgan Freeman's voiceover at the end explain all this? That it was bacteria? Seemed pretty obvious to me.
Sorta I reckon, but I guess we can't all be as quick as you... Anyhow, thanks for clearing it up guys....
I mentioned that they were killed by the cold to someone who hadn't seen the movie and they got mad. hey, the book was written over a hundred years ago. i think the statute of limitations on spoilers has done RUN OUT.
Haven't read the book. I enjoyed hearing the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. I like the 1952 movie based from the HG Wells. I love the television series from 1988-1990. I hate the Tom Cruse/Steven Spielberg version of the movie. Although the elements of the aliens' demise hasn't changed; I just hated the idea the machines were there before the dawn of human civilization.
How many War of the Worlds movies came out last year, anyway? I know there was the Tom Cruise one, and the British one that went straight to video. I also saw that Sci-Fi Channel was playing one a while back, that I thought also had 2005 listed as it's release year.
Not to mention 70 years since Wells' infamous radio broadcast (which gets aired frequently), 50 years since the very popular George Pal film, 15 years since the not-so-popular WoTW television series, and about 3 years since the hardly-read-at-all League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 2 , all of which involve the bacteria killing the aliens. I was glad they kept that ending. It was next to impossible to surpass. Shame about Cruise's son though.
yeah, i remember going to this movie with my girlfriend on opening night and halfway through realizing the ending would make or break this movie...and it broke it in half....i was pissed...not that i dont mind the bacteria aspect, but it was just so quick...they were like oh yeah, the aliens died...have a good day....stupid people....i have decided that if i ever see this movie again, im just gonna turn it off as you see them enter boston, and leave it as a cliffhanger ending...and as for a good ending, they shoulda shown people going underground to live, and attempt to work together against this invasion....but whatever....its all tom cruises fault anyway....
