Picked this up today from my Local Toyworld. It comes packaged in robot mode so we'll start there.

It's very complex looking, and that is something that I quite like. I've not been paying enough attention to the whole WFC thing to know if hes screen accurate, but from an objective standpoint he looks really nice. Posability is alright - he's got a codpiece that limits his legs a bit, and his shoulders tend to droop on their transformation joint, but overall quite nice. The head is very anime styled - long antennae etc.

Transformation is insane. NUTS. the legs essentially fold up neatly but the rest of it is insane. The transformation is very movie styled in that all the random bits of armour hanging off the robot mode clip together to form the front end of the vehicle mode. There is a LOT of swivel and twisting things. It's a bit finicky the first few times but once you get the hang of the specific order to do things in it's quite intuitive.

Vehicle mode is very nice. It's essentially an armoured Cybertronian hot rod. It looks appropriately bulky. The front end does have a tendency to come unclipped, but it's not really a major issue.

Overall I didn't know what to expect from this figure. I'm not really a big Optimus Prime fan so I picked it up with some hesitancy, but was pleasantly suprised. It takes all the best bits of the movie advances in engineering and applies them to a very War Within esque design. 9/10.

So yeah, War Within with a dab of movie styling and a helping of insnae movie style transformation.

Oh and the gun - the gimmick works well but to be honest I'd have preferred one that manually folds out and clips together with pegs (the only thing keeping it straight in rifle mode is pressure from the spring). It's not so loose that it bends if you hold it sideways, but it's almost at that level.

I get the feeling it's the kind of thing you'd have to glue after a few months.

re photos, I can do them if you want but it's just a phone camera and my desk is several inches deep in uni exam notes, so I'd prefer to leave it to the people with a proper photo box and camera.

The transformation doesn't sound like something I'll like, but that wont stop me from getting this. Thanks for the review!

Lol, everyone seems to mistransform the shoulders and legs. Do the instructions say to do it like that? XD

No but then I chucked the instructions and the box about 20 seconds after getting it.

To be fair with the wheels forward the balance is better (they swing back a fair way and are quite heavy - they add to the back heaviness of the figure). The shoulders, I have no idea. I just went with what felt right.

the "knee pads" go down in robot mode. vehicle mode, they swing up to become tail lights.

Alright. I got a few bot mode pictures that are transformed RIGHT for once. The only real thing I did was pop the torso out a tiny smidgen to let the legs pose forward. He reminds me of deluxe Armada Prime due to this.

This is the extent the pads on his shoulders can fold into. The back panel is surprisingly compact though.

Prime is easily my favorite of the two WFC figures at this point. Truck mode is fairly badass, transformation is insane (had to consult the instructions for a full start-finish and I still don't think I have it down), bot mode is pretty sweet.

My only gripe is that the head likes to pop off and doesn't stay on very solidly.

8.5/10, given that a 10/10 doesn't exist and my favorites hit between 9 and 9.5.

Anybody else notice the molded detailing on his back? It looks like an Autobot symbol from long ago...or something similar to the face of the Last Autobot.

Wonder if that has any bearing on him being the "chosen" one to lead the Autobots in the game?
