You heard right... If you've got a yellowed worn down transformer, I want him. I want to experiment with a few ideas I have on removing the yellowing, but I don't have anything to experiement with. Even if it is parts of a transformer, that would be good (G1 Jetfire wing?). As long as it is fairly discoloured, I would be happy.

I'm looking for this on the cheap, so let me know what you have in your junk piles. Pictures would be helpful also.

i thought this couldnt be done/reversed as it is a chemical reaction. i heard from a good source the only 2 ways of doing this is to paint it white or scrape off the top layer of plastic. what would you plan to do to try to eliminate the yellowing?

I am guessing that these will be the best way to get this to work. I've got some chemical baths lined up that I want to try and see what happens to the plastic, as well as some materials lying around the office that got me curious as to if they would work on plastic. Only one way to find these out.

ive worked with a yellowed g1 ratchet. it depends on the extent of the yellowing. i basically sanded down the yellowed parts but the yellowing can go deep into the plastic in parts.

yeah the sanding method has worked for my friend but you can see the scratch marks left over. though it is very minimal f you do it right.

I use a normal household cleaner called Orage Glo . My Skylynx was a nasty ass yellow almost as dark as those yellow envelopes and this stuff turned him almost back to his bone white color. Oxy Clean could probably even work now that i think about it.. My way of thinking is dont over think things lol Citrus cleans everything, and nope didnt dry it out or make it brittle and it smelled nice lol ..

Give this a shot before you go messing with chemicals or sanding or painting and so on. this is what Orange Glo looks like , it's sold in store now, it used to only be mail order.....

Hope you have as good a results as i have :)

Keep in mind there are two distinct reasons why a toy will yellow. If it was discolored by UV damage (ie. sunlight), you can't wash that off.

If it's residue build-up (eg. nicotine), you can wash that off easily.

Just send the guy your yellowed transformers already. He didn't ask for any opinions, just the discolored toys.
