Buddhist Temple Paintings Include Superman, Ultraman, and 'A Transformer'...
That building is beautiful, though a little creepy.
Bumblebee has officially ascended to godhood? And here I thought all of us that hated on all of Bumblebee's toys had a future.
The way he's casually standing sideways on the moving podracer made me lol.
Shhhhhhhhh! 10-year-olds are bad enough, already!
The Sistine Chapel's got competition
Bumblebee is not Jesus, Thailand same gos for Optimus is not God,Megatron is not Satan, & Starscream is not The Anti-Christ.
That is awsome and very pretty....
I was being facetious with my title - the painting is actually in a chamber meant for meditation to achieve higher consciousness.
I will meditate in front of Bumblebee.
I will meditate in front of lots of people, really.
I was kind of hoping that article would explain why those images were there. I don't know enough about Buddhism, though, to even be able to guess at the possible symbolism.
It's a Bhuddist temple. They don't believe in god.
Bumblebee and Neo are not to scale! Raaaaaaage!
If I ever become a supervillain, thats what I'll use as my lair.
Auuuuuuugh. That place is creepy, and not just because of those paintings.
Well now that is just something you don't see everyday (unless you live nearby)
yeah, scale didn't seem to be happening much there at all
Very nice and interesting find there Moony.
Why not Optimus?? raaaayyygggggee!
Now they could give Bumblebee the bomb
That sure looks pretty impressive, and I get the feeling that murals of that nature are more about using symbols and mythical figures we are familiar with in modern times to look at the world around us and ourselves, or possibly to show those figures to future generations as characters that were important to us here and now. They said themselves the temple likely wouldn't be finished for 100 years.
It could also be that since the theme of the temple is escaping temptations and achieving nirvana and a truly enlightened way of being, that those characters are meant to symbolize a lot of the vices and corporatism that we let ourselves ascribe to.
