My cynical expectation is that this was a holiday 2018 TRU plan so far into production that Hasbro was in a bind and so Wal-Mart took the stock over at a bargain.

I think what might excite me would be something not quite like authentic rereleases but not as goofy/random/event based as Takara and Platinum recolors have been.

So, for example, maybe a new G2 wave with inspired color and sticker decos. Hot Rod had a few comics G2 color schemes that got involved by the time of the UK Fleetway stories, where he was magenta neon primary with orange accents. Go through and release “lost” repaints. Dinostripe Grimlock. The Seekers only done by eHobby before. Maybe a Pretender Stepper/Ricochet. Red G1 Jazz inspired by Alternators. G1 Windcharger as Decepticharge. Arcee from Chromedome.

The main thing that would probably excite me about a proper “authentic” G1 reissue is if they had the entire sticker sheet preapplied as metallic tampographs and really concentrated on a display piece that will last over time better than the originals. Maybe some reworking to have a “zero paint, zero stickers” approach with pieces broken into separate glued pieces as necessary or sublimated aluminum.

Maybe in general a remastering process where they build a new mold for future use from 3D scans, enhance detail, fix weak points. Maybe even a WST reverse type thing where they upsize by 50% to recreate the feel of holding the original as a kid. The 50% upscale would probably bypass safety issues that forced changes in the past since the missiles/stacks/etc. would be bigger.

I imagine Judd Nelson is trying to get a career comeback and figures this would be easier than a Breakfast Club reunion...maybe??

I don't know if folks would recognize the inspiration, though. Most would probably just see them like the Platinum Triple Changer recolors.

Stepper was also renamed "Ricochet" for the US release.

Maybe but we'd have the shelves cleared out by then? If they're key characters?

Honestly, my preferred option is what I suggested later on. 3D scan the figures. Recreate the molds while the option still exists. Fix engineering issues. Increase parts count in manufacturing if it gets away from paint. Use sculpted detail and/or tampos. Maybe increase the size. Complete reversal of World's Smallest TFs, basically.

Create a display piece recreation without paint that chips or stickers that peel, that reverses any mold degradation and possibly even has sharper detail than the original. An archival TF.

Honestly, that would be a fantastic intern/newbie project.

So, a reissue Megatron is out of the question even as an online exclusive right?

Not even sure why I'm even asking.

Well Hasbro tried with the original Commemorative Series back then and they couldn't even get the mold released looking like this.[IMG] sorry for the stamp best pic I could find.

Not unless they reissue G2 Megatron (Either the original version or the Shorter Combat Megs)

To be honest reissuing G1 megatron would be kinda out of the question, ESPECIALLY given the background involving guns and all.

RID2001 Side Burn actually shows that the likeness is a problem. The initial release didn't have a logo, yet it was so similar to an actual Dodge Viper that they had to add a logo on all future releases of the mold. X-Brawn similarly had his rear lights changed from the Japanese version to try and make him just different enough to avoid IP infringement .

Did they actually try or is this just a case of "a lawyer said ... and everyone just believed them?"

the box could be real of just some fan made garbage. The Takara reissue of Rodimus from what I can tell had a plastic tray like this one.
Im including a picture from an eariler post and the takara reissue.

I think its some mock up or just some random place holder image. both this version and the takara reissue are both held in plastic trays with plastic straps and have the foil hood sticker.

Not only that but the molds were worn out beyond use so there's another reissue we'll never see.

I've heard the story. I just don't believe what companies say. They didn't want to release it and they came up with a reason they thought people would buy instead of just saying "no, because we don't want to."
