Another contributor of our collective childhood experience has passed. Without him, our memories of our favorite old cartoons would be very different. Thank you Mr. Burr for all of your important behind-the-scenes work that directly added to the quality of children's entertainment. Thank You, God Bless & Rest in Peace!
RIP Wally Burr, thank you for your direction and creating emotion and nostalgia, and happiness in 80s kids. Til all are one, old friend.
RIP Wally Burr, the man who I still believe was the reason Blurr was named "Wally" in the horrible Headmasters dub. I think it's fair to say Wally Burr had a big impact on a lot of children and adults alike.
I had the pleasure of meeting Wally Burr at TFcon a few years ago. Naturally, we'd all heard the stories about him, and let me tell you, Wally lived up to them. Auditioning for the Fan Voice Panel, I just stood there thinking to myself "I am getting line-read by Wally Burr. I am getting LINE-READ by WALLY FUCKING BURR." A surreal moment, to be sure. But the real privilege for me was getting to sit down with wally later at the hotel bar and have a long conversation with him. We talked about his experiences in the war, his time in animation, marketing and messaging, social media and self-promotion. I was struck by how much he reminded me of my own grandfather, and how sharp he was, even at that age. It's a conversation I'll remember for a long, long time, I think. Last year, we heard Wally had had a serious stroke, and I've sort of been dreading this announcement since then. I'm slightly ashamed to admit I didn't think Wally would last this long, but I suppose none of us should be surprised, given how stubborn and driven a man he was. I wrote him a get well message then, though I'm not sure if he got it. I hope he did. I hope he knew just how much his work, and he himself, meant to all of us, though I suspect he was more than sharp enough to have a pretty good idea after his numerous convention appearances. I'm sure he's telling St Peter how he SHOULD be welcoming people to the Pearly Gates as I write this, but tonight, I poured a glass and toasted Wally Burr, hoping to speed him on his way to his reward. And then I had a second, because I knew Wally would always have wanted another take. Rest in Peace, Wally Burr. God Bless You and Keep You.
Wally was very kind to me the time I got to interact with him. To this day that small, simple, interaction when he gave some sage advice has helped me. Wally has touched a lot of lives and he leaves a wonderful legacy. He'll always be a legend in my mind. And the memories he provided for millions of fans are timeless. May he live forever in our hearts and minds.
Sad news... I'm glad though, that the fruits his efforts will live on for ages to come... We all benefit from the fact that the original Transformers cartoon was more to him, like it was to all of us growing up, than just some 30 minute commercial...he strove to make it the best it could be...and his work helped it live on all these years...
Oh wow. Never met him, but he made an amazingly positive impact on my life almost daily as a child and any time I get to watch the old shows with my kids these days. The stories from the actors about him were always great. Thanks, Wally.
