    The story....

    PS3 launch sees multiple thefts

Armed men take "at least four" systems from California GameStop; three men held up outside Oregon mall during early morning vigil.

With PlayStation 3 systems fetching thousands of dollars on eBay and gamers across the country lining up to purchase Sony's $500 and $600 consoles, some unscrupulous people are seeing the launch as a quick way to make a buck at someone else's expense.

The Sacremento Bee is reporting that "at least four" PS3 systems were stolen along with several Xbox 360s from an Elk Grove, California, GameStop by a pair of armed men Thursday morning. Elk Grove police responded by notifying local retailers and nearby police departments of the theft, and advising those lining up for the system not to do so alone, and not to bring cash.

Meanwhile, Eugene, Oregon's KMTR News is reporting that three men who had been camped out in front of a Circuit City waiting for the Friday launch of the PlayStation 3 were robbed early Thursday morning.

According to the station's report, the three had left the line temporarily, and were stopped by a pair of masked men as they passed a nearby Target. The two men led the trio behind the store and mugged them. Police used mall surveillance tapes to retrace the robbers' steps after the crime, and were able to recover some stolen goods, including a wallet.

And you know who really loses in all this? Us. Because the companies see how crazy excited we get over these things, and the demand they create, and so standing in line for a new video game system becomes the normal way to get them.

I feel sorry for the moms and dads who stood in line and were honestly trying to get their kids something they really wanted for Christmas. And maybe that was all they had.

I just heard about all the crazy shit that's going down. I'm glad the PS3s are in demand and all but damn, this is ridiculous.

What's worse is I'm sure all the jackasses stealing and such are just going to try to sell them.

The only console I ever had that died was my SNES, and that was only because my cat pissed on it :(

Of course they're in demand. Sony short shipped them. When you only send a grand total of 50 PS3's to a city with over 5 million people in it, there is a demand, but there is no supply. So, underhanded people see this, steal from people, and then sell it on Ebay for $2000. Sony wins (well come to think of it, no they don't since the system costs more than what they're selling it for), and the theives wins, leaving the morons that can't wait a couple of months for actual good games high and dry.
