Note, this thread could probably be combined with another thread so if the mods will it so be it.

A thought just occurred to me. Hasbro can put out a Unicron toy but not an Omega Supreme, Metroplex, or Trypticon? Hasn't the issue been that they don't sell well. Then how does Unicron fare better? Haven't I heard another issue is cost? How is Unicron better?

Just a random thought while I was trying to fall asleep. Please destroy while I examine the insides of my eyelids.

For one, Unicron is pretty much already made. It's basically a repaint and the mold has been around for years. Second, it's being sold (the amazon one) as an exclusive, therefore, not as many made....hence making higher price point "acceptable" (although one could argue that the Amazon exclusive is pretty cheap)

*Edit - oh, and they have put out Metroplex (cybertron) and Omega Supreme (Energon), just not exaclty what everyone wants.

Hmm, I was just gonna go with something along the lines of "Do Metroplex & Trypticon eat planets?", but I guess that works too. :)

Name recognition. Some people may not have heard of Omega Supreme or Trypticon before. But chances are they have heard the name Unicron, and so it would be more likely to capture their interest. That is what Hasbro would want, something that would appeal to the mass market rather than the small portion that is the collectors.

Plus, everything that Dr. Prime said.

Well the collectors like us will buy a crap load of them regardless of what is released, The average joe on the street, will most likely go hey thats the monster planet from the movie when I was a kid, and Oh looks 25th Anniversary and be more inclined to pick it up. Also they have the mold readily and can produce it relatively cheaply compared to making new Omega or Metroplex molds.

This. New molds are expensive and the big scale toys are majorly refocusing onto key characters lately. I wouldn't expect a large scale toy of a non-major character any time soon unless there is an existing mold to recycle.

Yeah, we're not really getting new Unicrons. Unicron was made for Armada but his mold is a classic one. You can use him for multiple series :)  We're just getting repaints of that toy. The bots we got for Metroplex and Omega Supreme during that time aren't the same.

    Uh, guys...

Omega Supreme and Metroplex have been reissued in the Encore line. The molds are there.

Oh yeah I do remember seeing pictures of a Metroplex. I also did know that it was a repaint of an older mold.

I guess sleepy me didn't think it through enough.

I think the OP was referring to new iterations, not the original ones :)

I was so proud that my seven year old son use to carry around Unicron everywhere we went. He is ten now and he still likes Unicron. He just drew Primus, but he drew Unicron first.

I think this supreme figures sell slowly.

I don't think they want to over-saturate the market, especially as voyagers and deluxe toys get downsized due to Mech Tech.

I think City-Formers are a hard cell a the marketing table as well, in comparison to some of the playsets already in the pipelines.
