So I was perusing my local Target when I found this:

It seems to be the regular Bludgeon but with gun-metal gray paint on the gun, Barrel, missile launchers (Are those missile launchers?), and those gear-looking' things on the front. On the original, I know that what is silver/gray on this one, is unpainted, as I actually was able to compare this one to a regular Bludgeon they had there, too.

I'll update this post with pics of robot mode once I have him out of the box.

So far, it looks like this 'variant' isn't worth it. As soon as I transformed him, there was a flood of paint chips falling in my lap. The silver swords are nice, but paint comes off of them like nobody's business. Also, all of the new paint apps are very sloppy, and unsavory. Oh well.

How interesting! Maybe someone custom painted it and returned it? Or a dude at the factory decided to be super nice!

That's nice. Metallic grey looks infinitely better than that bland grey plastic. It looks like metallic plastic rather than paint though. And if there is paint on the sword, there'll probably be an issue with his hands wearing it off though.

He also has paint on the 'wheels' on his treads. Still have yet to Transform him, but I'll try and post pics of his robot mode tomorrow.

Yeah, the sword is painted a very nice metallic silver, instead of gray. Though, just from pulling it out of the barrel, I've gone and scratched off a bit of paint. *Sigh*

Again, I'll try to post pictures of it tomorrow.

If this is a factory variant, than it's a figure with the shittiest QC on a paint job, even worse than Universe Prowl. I personaly believe this is a custom paintjob, that was probably given as a present, and later returned to the shop.

Makes sense. The alterations are too small and to specific, plus in the close ups, it looks like the upper orange legs were also painted over in a different orange. Hasbro would have no reason to waste paint simply to color a part the exact same color. Hell, if they were trying to fix this figure's paint flaws, then they should start at the fact the rear tank wheels don't show the black painted on them in tank mode!

the silver looks like it came from a sharpie.

not buying this as an official release. not for a second.

IF you found this at a store, this is what happened: someone tried repainting it, realized they sucked at doing it, and took it back after ruining the figure. so you bought someone's horrible repaint attempt.

look at the front of the tank, or his left shoulder. same piece. hasbro would never paint over black with silver. and they would never do it that badly.

hasbro also doesnt paint assembled figures. so the paint on the inside part of his leg would never be able to drip onto the orange plastic.

There's also the date to take into account.

    I thought of that...

But the item was completely MISB, and I have no idea how anyone could have repackaged him so perfectly.

...Unless someone pulled this one off the line, painted him, and put him back on the line.

Of course, all of the 'newly' painted parts on him is very shottily painted at best, and the paint itself can come off extremely easily, so it's perfectly reasonable to think this is not a legitimate Bludgeon variant.

It's not hard to make a loose toy MISB if you have the box, twist ties and such. I agree that this is someones messed up paint job. This would have not passed QC since the toys are marketed to kids. There is no way in hell Hasbro will let this one slide. If a mom bought this, she would raised hell. BTW shame on the person that returned this--What if a kid bought this, paint is very hazardous.

That would explain why it was sitting in the Target here for over a month.

Everyone else probably avoided it like the plague...

Paint quality screams 'custom' right off the bat. If this was painted in the factory, the silver wouldn't have that gritty, bubbly look to it, but look even.

Seems to me somebody traded it back in, as well.
