I finally finished another one of the Energon combiners into my E Combaticons.
I think this mold works well as Vortex. It even has the same tail rotor transformation.

Origonally it was just a mod of the piece that allowed him to be both an arm and a leg and then repaint. I also add the forward gun barrel to match the G1 gun piece. (lets try to keep the comments, about his gun location, out of the gutter when he's in Bot mode).

More recently, I decided to change the loction of his legs, for the alt mode, because it reminded me of the rotating assembly that G1 Vortexs toy had attached to his blades. I also added his other two guns to his arms. I had already removed the pegs that held the legs on the side of the copter. They would have worked for the guns but this way he can use them when in bot mode.

Finally, I made his tail rotor into a chop saw/axe.

    enough talk, here's the pics

I think it came out great. Let me know if you agree or not.

Yup! Really freakin' cool. The incorporation of the G1 weapons and the custom decals really sell it. You doin' the rest?

All three look great. Sorry if I sound ignorant, but are you going to attempt to somehow combine them?

They will all combine with the normal energon connectors except for Swindle. I'm just trying to make them more of a G1 homage and also improve the look of the combined mode (more for the Aerialbots).

    Thanks for your comments.

i think i may have found a way to improve on vortex's arm configuration.

basicly it would require disasembling the figures upper body, then doing a sand down job to lower the top edge of the combiner socket port so that a flat panel piece can be set into place on top of it while making sure the combiner socket port has enough room to fold out from beneath it.

it would also require cutting the figures upper body in 2 when it comes to the cutting line being that indetnio line molded into the sides of the lower body.

that line that runs accross the sides of the upper body where the 2 foot pegs used to be at

that is where you want to cut the figures upper body at

as for finishing the mod job people it would also require building a combiner peg into place on top of the lower body with the combiner socket and peg serving as a way to reatach the upper and lower body in a thoroughly detachable manner

lastly the panel piece that the figures robot head is built onto which is attached to the flat panel piece that folds from the upper body,

this final part would require epoxy gluing the robot head panel piece into a permanent fixed position but in doing so it must be done in such a way that the flat panel piece that is attached to the robot head panel can still rotate freely at the steel pin joint that attaches the flat panel folding piece from the upper body to the robot neck panel piece and with the cockpit chest armor still being able to fold up over the head

basicly this mod would make it possible for the robot's entire lower body to fold out from beneath the upper body with the lower body folding up in front of the upper body

this arm configuration would then have 2 joints at the shoulder, 1 at the combiner peg and 1 at the combiner socket joint, 3 at the elbow when it comes to the rotating waist joint the figures hip joints and the folding hinge joint that attaches the lower body to the chest cockpit piece in addition to a secondary elbow joint at the knees and a elbow joint at the feet and ankles

I got lost in the middle of your description but this version of Vortex is an ARM ONLY version. The connector port is fixed into position for attaching to Onslaught. The head is glued into position and the cockpit rotates down for bot mode on the origonal joint, minus the long piece that used to cover the connector area.
There wasn't a need to cut the body apart for anything. I'm going to have the Energon hand that was shown on Blastoff, for now, but I plan on building some hands with better articulation, at a later time.
