The actual 2d animation doesn't look too bad. What ruins it is that terrible shading. If they fix that, it'll look a lot better.
Repost of my rant on Voltron.com So much potential. So very disappointed in this new series. Each Lion serves a purpose and should not be interchangeable. The Black Lion's mystique has been diminished, especially if all lions can replace it's functions. This IP has so much potential, I'm frustrated at the creative team and low production values. Bring back Toei or another Japanese animation studio that understand mecha and treat it with respect and care.
the faces are soooo bland... really annoying that after almost 30 years, they cheaped out on the damn animation... Thundercats wins here.

From what I saw in that trailer, it's not so much the animation itself, as it's the generic looking character designs. Voltron itself looks neat though. If the writing for the show can outweigh the bland looking characters, (Mixed with some good action.) then it could still be interesting. I'll have to check it out.
They're probably just going to sell a torso version of the other four lions in a two-pack, with a black lion version of the limb it's replacing. I hope that's how they do it, at least. It would be pretty awesome to be able to make an all black lion voltron. lol

Okay, that was cool. The phrases during combination were the same (or at least very close- I can't remember exactly), the music had hints of the original theme, and they even had the four limbs roar (my favorite part of the original combination sequence). I'll definitely be checking this out when it comes out!
The animation style just has a cheap look to me. I'll probably check out the first episode or two but I don't really like what I'm seeing so far.
Holy crapsnacks this is looking friggin horrible. I'm glad, one less thing I have to worry about, saves me some time and some money.
Yeah, I have to agree. Kept waiting and waiting to see something. After how awesome Thundercats looked, this is such a let down.
Interesting. *waits for an edit of that video with the original Voltron theme* I think i finally agree on the animation. Not...quite good.
