Anyone know any free ways to view Word 2007 and Notepad documents in Vista?
Open office maybe?
notepad documents can be viewed in... notepad. on vista.
Here you go. Install the official Microsoft Word Viewer, then install the 2007 compatibility pack on the same page.
Download details: Word Viewer
This is just to view 2007 docs. You will need another app to create, change, or edit them, suck as Open Office.
Oh the site I went to kept asking me to get this monthly payment thing for it.
I also ment edit.
notepad is in vista. seriously. you can view them, edit them, whatever.
When I try to open them from where they're saved it either wont open or I can't edit them.
You ever tried AbiWord Portable?
it's free, incredibly small (file size) and can handle most any text file.
Works, Word, WordPad, NotePad, WordPerfect, etc.
extremely handy at colleges or schools.

What is the error message exactly, Sam?
Something is wrong here because notepad.exe hasn't changed -ever.
You should be able to open any .txt with it.
Also, OpenOffice might be requesting a donation, but it is part of the GNU (General Public License) that it is free to the public.
yeah open office is your free alternative that will give you the functionality for free. The download will start when you click the link. There is a blurb about open source, GNU, blah blah but there is no requirement for you to do so. Enjoy!
While starting the download, we would like to remind you of some opportunities for contribution. OpenOffice.org is provided to you at no charge, and you have every right to redistribute the software. We depend on people willing to contribute their time and support to the project to ensure that OpenOffice.org remains free and available at no cost.""""

I'm not sure if he was on the right site. I know they ask you to donate if you can, but there shouldn't be anything there about monthly payments, AFAIK... and I know there are some outfits out there selling Open Office for money. It's legal to do that, but not very honest, IMO.
I got open office to work. Thanks everyone.
