I use Kaspersky, and it's worked really well, so that's what I'd recommend

AVG Free. I've used it for years now and never encountered a problem. It preforms daily scans of your entire PC and identifies bad links on search engines which is nice.

Looking to pay? Norton or MacAffe might be up your alley.

Free stuff? Stinger, or maybe AdAware?

I would recommend those ^^^ (for free stuff). They work quite well. I have a Mac now, but when I had a PC I used AVG Free and AdAware.

However, even with those going I did eventually catch some malware. I ended up reformatting my hard drive, but that's actually a good thing to do every so often.

Kaspersky if you want to pay for AV protection
Avast for free and slightly older computer
Avara for free and new fast computer
Couple Avast or Avara with free Zonealarm firewall and your golden

Edit: PM me if you want or need specifics on why those are my prefered AV's
I don't want to start a debate on this thread which is why I'm not going to post my reasons here

I'd advise you to get "Avast!" free anti spyware in addition to whatever antivirus program you get. Spyware is just as nasty as viruses, and things like Norton don't stop some of them(Personal experience)
