which is good news, i was worried it was going to be a ps3 exclusive.

the only killer for me is no online play... even though doa4 has some lag issues it keeps me playing it, and when you have a good connection its like being in the same room. fighting games are supposed to be played with other people dammit!

I don't particularly care for online play with fighting games, any lag at all means an overall decrease in effectiveness. DoA was fun because it's style means you can really let rip without the uber precision and still have fun.

Virtua Fighter relies so heavily on the split second timing for feints and psyche outs, you lose half the game right there.

I'm not hinting I am at that point with either DoA or VF, far from it, but if you are a VF expert, online would have you twitching uncontrollably from being crippled.

Also, I got tired of facing the same 5 guys in DoA 4 online every time I logged in; "Oh shit, I'm losing... time to go Ninja!" *yawns*

i know this arguement - and i say phoey.

doa also relies on timing, especially with players who know how to play (feints and psyche outs included) rather than mash, but its still got online. lag does mess it all up, but still. seems a bit of a cop out to me.

Well at the end of the day it's up to Sega, and either it was too much work or just deemed to dilute the experience to the point where its inclusion was deemed unworthy.

And I never slighted DoA 4, so don't get defensive about it, but you -can- do reasonably well with the mashings of the buttons, I live with the living proof of this.

Virtua Fighter is a completely different beast to DoA 4, and I do not lament the "loss" of online play with it, in fact, I don't really care, 90% of the online players of these games love to cheese you to shit anyway. Ever faced E Honda in SF II on the 360? Cheeeeeese.

fair cop dude - i'm just upset because if anything i prefer virtua fighter games, and for me i get really bored of fighters with no one (human) to play against.

and the only way you lose to a button masher is to be a masher yourself, I am the proof of this!

i'm not entirely sure what i meant by that last sentence.

Me either, but I like it. Especially if it means mashing someones face XD

Virtua Fighter is way too technical for me... actually so is DoA 4... man I want my Capcom vs SNK back :(

    *digs out his Dreamcast*

    I'll be passing on this.

Mind you, I've never taken DoA online and probably never will.

I will be getting VF 5 after Virtua Tennis, and Elder scroll. The online part does not effect me I do not like playing online to much swearing, cheating, etc... Plus I am always pausing my game to help the wife out around the house. Right now I am into Motorstorm big time.

Might rent it first too see how it is. It's been forever since I've played Virtua Fighter. I think the last time I played it was for the Sega 32X.

Hey is this thread open to anyone or just smagerbot and twin twist? :lol

My 2 cents are- The PS3 version got good reviews but I think the only downer was the lack of online play. I agree with smangerbot that it seems silly to leave that component out of the game when so much focus right now is "who will win the online battle?" I think fighting games should have online so people can beat up total strangers like we used to in the arcades back in the day.

I might check this out, i've been thinking of giving VF a serious whirl for years and this is as good an excuse as any.

As for playing online, its nothing like playing in arcades. Double T has already pointed out that lag destroys any fighting game that requires skill to play, plus crap players can keep stinking up the competition because they don't run out of money or get thrown off the game by competent folks.
