    Hey all!

My boss just returned from Japan for business visiting with all our video game and manga partners (my day job is as a comic book, manga, and art book editor don’tcha know?). When he returned he brought me some wicked Japanese goodies!

The coolest is this 1986 Transformers 2010 45rpm vinyl record. Mint condition, he just happened to find it in a record shop and thought of me. I haven't been able to find out anything about it online, but it seems to contain two song from the Japanese version of the G1 3rd season - "Transformers 2010"(the theme maybe?) and "What's You".

Anyone ever seen one of these before? I need to head over to my buddy's place soon as he's the only person I know who has a record player heh...

    Whoa, neat find.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about this record.

    Very, very cool find.
Unfortunate, though, that my knowledge of Japanese TF's and tie ins is very limited.

Well, I've never seen that before, but I'm interested to know if there's more records like these for other series.

Ha-ha, awesome find! Those two songs are the opening and closing themes from the Japanese version of season 3. I'm fairly sure they released singles like this of all the OPs and EDs from the various series, or some of 'em at least. I didn't know they brought them out on records too, though, I thought it was just cassettes! I recall that the booklet that came with the "History of Music" CD set from a few years back had a bit of a checklist for this sort of stuff... I'll take a look at it when I get home from work...

Interesting, Destron New Emperor of Destruction Galvatron and Cybertron Commander Rodimus Convoy... Not a very creative cover design though.

And yeah, TF2010 was the OP, with What's You being the ED.

I am not surprised you found that format. Japan usually keeps some formats for a very long time after they disappear from the rest of the world, like the Laser Disc or the VHS.

    Great find!

Dang... I thought for sure records would be ancient history, along with 8-Track and cassette tapes.

Guess I better see about getting myself some of these TF records, since I got a record player. :p

Yes, records are still available, and last year there was a bunch of rumors going around that the industry may return to vinyl, I kept hearing comments that vinyl was better quality than Cd's etc. Must have been just that: a rumor, haven't seen the market flooded with vinyl lately, have we?

It just depends on where you get records, I suppose. One time I found records at an antique store that were amazingly cheap. It also depends on the record itself, if it's a highly-sought item or not.

Speaking of vinyl records being a better quality than CDs, I know for sure that the records and 45s my mom has have great sound. I listen to records every now and then, and I enjoy it.

Glad you guys like it ;)

On the back there's box art for Metroplex, Trypticon, Ultra Magnus, and Cyclonus, I guess advertising the toys? and inside there's some of the toy instruction line art of those characters(pretty sure that's what it is) plus the lyrics for the two songs.
