i bought a new video card for one of my computers the other day. i'm having problems trying to get it to work. the comp i'm putting it on has "onboard" video but i'm trying to get better video from it. i put the new card in and try to boot up and all i get is a blank screen. i took out the card and tried to install the drivers b4 installing the card, the drivers said i didn't have the correct hardware. so i put the card in and went to bios, enabled the onboard video only, installed the drivers fine. rebooted and went back into bios and changed to the PCI video card, and still when i pug into the video card all i get is a black screen.

anyone have any idea what's going on?
i tried to post this on a "computer tech" message board and 2 days ago and have yet to get any sort of responce.

    Ebay:
we gotta get a SAMPLE from ya before we can help.
Signs and Symptoms- we got that.
Allergies- apparently the pc is allergic to video cards
Medications- you put in new drivers and a new card
Past Medical- what else have you added ot removed from this machine?
Last intake- last thing you put in or did before the video card
Events Preceding- any glitches, any bugs or updates?

the thing is, we don't know if you are using Linux, Vista, XP or what other OS, we don't know what kind of rig ya got or any pertinent details to help you.

you can't tell a doctor you feel funny and that's all.

update us here and someone will help. peace and good luck.

You sure your BIOS settings are correct (PCI, PCI Express... AGP?)? Did you plug any necessary power connectors to the vid card? When using the video card do you see the BIOS at startup or is it just a blank screen there too? Can you tell us what hardware you are working with?

ok, my bad. shoudl have given more info.
    system is a HP a305w
    512 megs of ram
    2.66 gig processor
    60 gig HDD
    250w power supply
    running XP

NEW video card is BFG: nvidia GeForce 6200 OC
    system requirements:
    -128 megs of ram
    -CD drive
    -available PCI 2.0
    -250w power supply

in bios it only has 2 options for video- PCI or Onboard
it only has 3 PCI slots NO AGP or PCI express

with the video card connected, i can't even see bios, it's black the entire time it's on

it was running fine before i put the card in the slot. last thing i put on before? probebly Office '07. and everything was running perfect before i tried this video card

there are no power connectors to go to the card it's self

any questions i missed? if so i won't be home till around 9 tonight. i'll answer them then.

Sounds almost like you may need a bigger power supply. Especially if the card needs to draw 250W and you only have 250W total. The BFG cards come from the factory overclocked so they're probably drawing more juice than another brand of card as well. I'm running BFG 7800 GS OC right now but I've got a 480W power supply.
