Now that I have finally built a system with several terabytes of storage I want to take some of my 8MM tapes and capture them on a hard drive.
Unfortunately my old Sony Handycam has broken and it won’t play the 8MM tapes.

Other than looking on eBay for an old working 8MM camcorder does anyone have any idea how I can get this video to play?
I know I can send the tapes out and have this done, but I’m looking to do it myself.

Have you checked on getting it fixed locally? I've got a sony handy cam thats going on about 10 years now and it's starting to act on me too. Maybe garage sales or craigslist (just becareful).

I haven't looked into getting it fixed.
It was just that the buttons wouldn't register, and... well I tried to fix it myself and...
