what'd you expect from the worlds largest toy and game company, and also one of the oldest? Hassenfeld Bros. has been making toys since 1923! check their history: http://hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=ci_history_hasbro gotta love 'em.
I saw some of this. Transformers was number 41. That actually seemed a little low to me. I thought it might be in at least the top 25 but there was some pretty stiff competition.
I wonder something. How many of those toys were actually Hasbro's when they came out? I know Hasbro has bought up a lot of companies over the years, so would the number still be the same? Just curious...
Honestly, I think it would've been higher had most of the fandom had knowlegde of this voting. I didn't know about this till all the voting had been finished!
I didnt know the fans could actually vote. If I had know i would have. I always thought these lists vh1 came up with were made by them.
I don't think the voting really counted for much. Probably just served as a guide for toys to feature, then the producers of the show came up with the ranking. It seemed the more people voted for Transformers, the poorer it was doing during the vote period.
Well, Star Wars would be the most obvious. The vintage line wasn't theirs, it was Kenner, who Hasbro bought a few years before the 'new' line (the new line being on the verge of 11 years old now).
Bah...With the idiots doing commentary on that show, I had to mute the show to watch it. And as usual, VH1's rankings were screwy, as is all of their "Top 100" shows. Many of the choices made my wife and I stare at the screen and go "Hunh??". What made it even more stupid was if its supposed to be "I Love Toys", why the hell was sporting equipment and games included in the thing? Just proved to us that VH1 execs have more than a few screws loose. Definitely hooray for Hasbro tho being recognized so much for all the great toys they've made!
I have to agree that the ranking was pretty aweful. I mean c'mon, Barbie beat out LEGO and didn't LEGO get rated the #1 toy of all time in 2000? I heard that trivia question about which toy was #1 many times and it's always been LEGO. I think TF's should have been higher than some of those things and definitely in the top 25. This was more like what was the best object to have fun with b/c I don't really consider snow cone machines toys and the snoopy one was around the top. I had one, but I don't consider it a toy. Oh well, at least Hasbro kicked some butt!
Congrats to Hasbro, or more accurately congrats to Hasbro and all the companies they've acquired over the years, like Tonka, Kenner, Milton Bradley, Playskool, and others. Now if TakaraTomy falls on hard enough times, maybe we can have Hasbro Far East!
