If you check out Transformers At The Moon's Chara-Hobby 2007 gallery, you'll see two images of an extremely early mock-up (prototype) of the Transformers Movie Optimus Prime figure from Takara. It looks like a hybrid of Super Link Grand Convoy and Movie Leaderclass Optimus Prime. There is some concept art to go with it as well.
Cool. Odd that the Prime looks untransformable. I wonder if early on they had decided that the movie toys were too complex to replicate, so they were just making figures.
Yup, which of cause it what Hasbro do on very early concepts - examples of which were shown on the tour of their offices.
I was going to merge this with the Skylynx thread because there has already been discussion about it there, but it's probably best to have its own thread. Unless another mod feels differently, I'm going to let this one continue. And yeah, pretty darn accurate for a first attempt at Movie Prime.
That's shit is plastic? Looks like papier mache and some tubes to me, but that's probably from the pic or something.
I like the engineering drawings of Prime in that gallery...first time I've ever seen those. I also like that crazy camo tiger guy with the gun on his back...what is he?
