But....I don't understand? Where's "Separation Anxiety"? Or "Lethal Protector"? Or "Venom: The Madness"? Or the new Venom, which is the guy that was once the Scorpion?

    :p

Really nice job quickly detailing the Venom story, by the way.

    Thanks man :)

Didn't have time to get into the Lethal Protector series and definetly not into the Max Gargan Venom story hehe.

It’s been a long time since I read Secret Wars but I thought the deal was Spider-Man used the wrong machine. That’s why he got an alien and the others that used it just got normal clothing.

I think the Ultimate version of Venom is much better and just makes more sense. I would assume they are going to take the best of both versions and put them in the movie.

Maybe you should rename it ‘Remedial Venom’. :p

That's it. A couple of characters (can't recall who) had found an alien tailoring device to fix or replace their damaged costumes. Spidey, not taking time to ask for details, and apparantly not having enough experience with extraterrestrials to realize pushing random buttons is a bad idea, walks in and frees the symbiot, which, coincidentally, becomes his new black and white costume.

    ANYWAY...

There are, by my count, at least 3 different Venoms to consider:

    1) The original comic version. This is the one with the most convoluted origin, and not likely to be the one in the movie.

    2) The cartoon version. Replaces The Secret Wars with a stowaway aboard John Jameson's space shuttle. This is likely the version best known to viewers, and I suspect that this is the version of Eddie Brock that we'll see.

    3) The Ultimate Version in which the symbiote is a leftover experiment started by Peter's Father. Since Brock is a college student in this story, I suspect this will not be the version of him that we see, but I would not be suprised to see the symbiote origin adapted from this source, as extraterrestrials may be hard to put in the Spidey-verse.

IMO there's only one origin and it's the first, the animated series simply tried to simplify it because it would've taken them 20 episodes to explain the secret wars into it.

The Ultitmate Spidey origin isn't anymore plausible then the original version, I mean a black living oooze that creeps up people and cures cancer? At least with the Alien origin, that's just it.. it's Alien.. no need to go any further into it's creation, it's extraterrestrial, that's all we need to know, we are not supposed to understand the logistics behind it :)

Neither origin is terribly plausible, but then neither is a guy getting spider powers from a spider bite. The "plausibility" has more to do with the "flavor" of Spider-Man comics. Most of SM's villains have been ordinary people transformed by some scientific experiment or device. Not a whole lot of aliens in Spidey's past (even though they are crawling all over the MU), just as there aren't a lot of bank robbers in Fantastic Four. Thus a Venom that comes from experiments in biosymbiosis fits better in SM's world than one that comes from outer space.

This also gets to the "suspension of disbelief" thing. With SM (and the Goblin and Ock), viewers have already accepted the super-science-turns-men-into-freaks thing. Sticking with that theme doesn't require viewers to cross another bridge the same way "alien monster" does.

What? Max Gargan is Venom now? Sorry, but I haven't been paying attention to the comics lately. So then where the heck is Eddie Brock?

    Help?

With a terminal illness...in fact, he auctioned off the Venom suit, and gave all the funds to some charity or benefit, because he "saw the light" and wanted to do something good before he died.

    Or something like that.
