    I was wondering this because
    1. the vehicons sound different from one another
    2. they seem to each have an individual personality
    3. drones are weak, these guys are tough, if bulkhead didn't show up in the first episode, Arcee and Bumblebee might have been killed

They are generic character models for individual troops.

While they share the same body type they don't share a personality or even the same sort of voice so that kind of cuts them out from being drones.

Definitely some good points, and while the certainly aren't drone's in the traditional sense of the word, they'll probably be referred to as "drones" for the foreseeable future. Though maybe that'll stop once we find out what Hasbro is going to call the inevitable Deluxe class toy of them (personally I hope they stick with the Eradicon name for them).

They're not drones. More like Stormtroopers.

Individuals, but they all look alike.

I'd go for storm trooper. From what I can recall, Cybertronians can no longer make anymore of their own kind without the Allspark. Bumblebee is supposed to be part of the last generation. Wasn't that what happened in Exodus/WFC?

Maybe the Decepticons did what the Animated Decepticons did and made expendable clones. These clones are a bit weaker than the original and modified to help ensure loyalty.

Like Raven said, if they're "drones" it's not in the typical sense of being mindless bodies being controlled. Remember, in RotF, Wheelie said he was "a salvage scrap drone".

Seems to be mostly a fan thing with calling them drones because Starscream and Megatron have been calling them the troops.

With so many nicknames floating around I think there are lots of things we could call them and other fans will know what you are talking about. If Bulkhead can call Wheeljack Jackie then you can get by with all sorts of nicknames when it comes to Transformers Prime.
