How's this project going?
Thanks for asking! The project has progressed, although as with any hobby project, it hasn't progressed as quickly as I'd like.
Here are some more recent renders. I'm focusing on completing the five vehicles of the Sea Team. Afterward I'll focus on the upper torso and lower torso vehicles.
So good to see this is still going
This is fantastic. It's looking real good. Can't wait to see more
I ordered a 3D print of "Sea Team 6," the vehicle that forms Voltron's middle torso, as well as the hub of the Aqua Fighter. I expect the parts to arrive in mid-December. Unlike the previous prints, which were entirely made with Shapeways' White Strong & Flexible Polished Plastic, this vehicle's 17 parts are being printed in a variety of materials, so that the finished piece will more closely resemble what Panosh Place might have manufactured. I plan to modify and reprint Air Team 1 (Voltron's head) similarly.
I'm actively working on "Air Team 2," the vehicle that forms Voltron's upper torso, as well as the hub of the Strato Fighter.
Cool! Can't wait!
Each of the 15 vehicles can carry a 3-3/4" action figure of its pilot. One design goal of this project is for the 15 pilot compartments to be fully accessible in all modes, without having to detach any vehicles from the fighters or Voltron itself.
I've added to Air Team 2 (Voltron's upper torso) a crudely mocked-up hatch for the pilot action figure compartment. The hatch will open about a hinge at the hatch's forward edge.
When Air Team 2 isn't connected to any other vehicles, the hatch should be able to open to about 90 degrees. When Air Team 2 is connected to other vehicles as either the Strato Fighter or Voltron, the hatch should be able to open to about 65 degrees, after the pivoting connector block atop Air Team 2's hatch has been pivoted 90 degrees, so that Air Team 5 points away from Air Team 2's hatch hinge.
I have been following the progress of this thread since it started, and it is nothing short of astounding. This is some of the best engineering work that I have ever seen, hands down. Truly amazing skills mate
The last parts for "Sea Team 6" -- the vehicle piloted by Krik, and hte vehicle that forms Vehicle Team Voltron's middle torso as well as the hub of the Aqua Fighter -- have arrived. Here are a few photos. The vehicle's 17 parts are only test-fitted at this point. I'll superglue them together soon and shoot more photos of the assembled vehicle in each of its three modes (vehicle, Aqua Fighter component, Voltron component).
Cool. I like seeing progress on this.
I still love this Project!
Looking awesome so far!
Hopefully, all is well. Looking forward to the next update. Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks for asking. I was swamped with a few weeks of long hours at the office, so I've not made much progress in recent weeks. Here are some updated images, all of "Air Team 2," the upper torso vehicle piloted by Rocky. I'm almost finished with it!
The 3D-printed parts for Air Team 2 (Voltron's upper torso) should arrive later this week. In the meantime I've resumed work on Land Team 11 (Voltron's lower torso).
Rotating sections of this vehicle provide Voltron with articulated hips.
The 3-3/4" pilot action figure fits inside a pilot compartment with a hatch at the front of the vehicle. The action figure is inserted feet first and face down. The hatch opens in such a way that, in Voltron configuration, the hatch opens upward.
The 3D-printed parts for Air Team 2 arrived today! Here are some photos of the parts. I've only test-fitted some of them. Nothing has been "officially" assembled, and I don't yet know whether all of the 25(!!!) parts fit together. Still... I'm excited.
Coming along great! Really looking forward to seeing more. Keep up the great work!
It's me again with some update photos from the last six months!
