Thanks to ChessPieceFace of the Allspark who originally reported this here, and Michael Bay who also posted this on his blog.

I don't care for Ms. McClintock's tone, I feel like she's condecending to the fans on this. :redface2:

Screw Lorenzo; he wasn't AT ALL involved with making this movie happen. He's just along for the ride to suck out the money and screw up whatever he can. :mad  To see him mentioned in the same sentence as Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto really pisses me off.

Wow! That has to be one of the most un-professional articles I've ever read. "par" really?
Like Galvatron397 I also didn't care for the tone of it either.

Variety is the movie biz's newspaper - they use a lot of shorthand and industry-specific jargon all over in every article.

I wouldn't be offended by the tone or the grammar. Every article in magazines like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter reads like this, regardless of the movie they're talking about.

I always get a bit worried when they get talking about films that are somehow going to just magically appeal to everyone. To promote your film is a good thing, but to set up a level of expecations no film can live up to is normally trouble.

Oddly they didn't say anything about appealing to established Transformers fans. I also kind of get tired of the implication that something is wrong with the toys or liking the toys. I mean can't the movie be good and the toys cool all at the same time?

I know what you mean there, it seems like the media "big wigs" are treating this like "Oh, it's all you folks who liked G1's chance to enjoy Transformers again since you can't normally anymore now that you're older." I hate it when immature people lecture us on maturity. :rolleyes2

This article is aimed at the niche audience of Hollywood Insiders and wannabe Hollywood Insiders. To read it as a lecture on maturity aimed at the almost completely different niche audience of toy collecting adults is inaccurate.

    It's not personal. Really.

I'm not getting the negative vibe from this. The last thing most people remember when they hear the word transformers is a toy and cartoon hype from the 80s; they're not thinking serious action film. Hopefully the previews changed this a bit.

As soon as I read the part about this being a completely family friendly movie, I read the 5-page preview to the movie adaption #2. What did I see?

    SPOILERS

On the first page, first pannel, a man is falling off Scorps. progny tail with a giant hole in his back, blood squirting everywhere. And from what I've heard this scene will be in the movie. If I was a parent I wouldn't let my kids (if under 8 or 9) see that. How is that family friendly?

Because the film won't feature a giant hole in his back and squirting blood.

Yeah, it's a shame Tarantino isn't directing this, then there'd be a giant hole and a fire hose shooting blood out onto some angry lady. :lol

No, if Tarantino was directing this everyone would stand around without any shoes on and talk for 2 hours.

I'm curious to know what the ages were of the people in the kids' audience. PG-13 movies can be pretty intense for a young kid. My daughter who loves Transformers (particularly G1 and Beast Wars) is 4. I doubt I'll be taking her to see this movie.

I thought the article was very honest, and quite useful for people who haven't been following the film's production history.

Like it or not, right or wrong, the first fdew lines just about sums up the public perception of TRANSFORMERS and it's 'adult' fans. If the Movie breaks that cycle and make the franchise more acessable then it's done us a great service.
