I got to thinking about variants today. I recently picked up a lot that contained a metal-chested variant of Springer. How rare (or common) is this in comparison to the plastic chested version?

Anyone have a list of less common G1 variants?

I'm not sure myself, but this site might help.

I didn't know the metal chest was a variant. I picked up a beat up one years ago because I needed him for my collection. Flaking paint and no accessories but he's there.

Alot of the season 3 toys had diecast when they were first released and then later releases were all plastic. Predaking is the most famous of these, with the reissue being diecast. The smaller gestalts were like this too.

I think the metal version of springer is less common then the plastic, however I think Springer himself is one of the more difficult to come by season 3 figures in general.
