Reason #712 to hate Mike Bay...

    From Variety....

"Freddy Krueger is getting a wakeup call.
Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to relaunch the movie series centered on the iconic killer, who haunts the dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep.

The trio will create a new franchise based on Wes Craven’s 1984 film “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”

Originally played by Robert Englund, the Krueger character haunted nine films and two TV series in what was New Line’s most lucrative franchise until “The Lord of the Rings.”

Deal comes as Bay, Fuller and Form ready an early May start for “Friday the 13th,” New Line’s relaunch of another iconic baddie, Jason Voorhees. Marcus Nispel will direct from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (“Freddy vs. Jason”).

Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, just as Platinum Dunes did with the Nispel-directed “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” New Line won’t hire a writer on “Nightmare” until the writers strike ends."

Being that Freddy was a child molester before he died, I'd say that just about sums it up. :lol

Argh. PLEASE stay away from the late 70's/early 80's horror flicks. Freddy vs. Jason was a prime example of why.

Fuck. The remakes never, ever end, and this is definitely one that should be left alone.

Actually, I have no problems with this. The Nightmare series became so over the top goofy by the end that it just wasn't enjoyable anymore. New Nightmare being the exception. If it's on the level of the Texas Chainsaw remake, then we could be in for a treat. I will admit, I have some serious reservations about Nispel directing though. The Amityville Horror remake wasn't so good.

Joe's post is like reading my own thoughts.
I prefer the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but the remake was pretty good.
The Nightmare movies started out freaky, gory, and creepy as hell.
Then they turned into adventure movies where the kids had to figure out how to "outdream" Freddie. (Queue up Dokken's Dream Warriors.)

A remake could be good if it goes back to the series' roots.

Yeah. they were of Freddy telling "scary" stories. Kinda like Tales From The Crypt. However, the series premiere is the only episode worth watching. It's a prequel to the first Nightmare movie. It's got Robert England as Freddy when he was alive, and it shows how he was captured and killed.

If you get the Chiller channel, they play the series just about every night.

What? why? If anything, if they wanted to keep this franchise alive, they should just make a sequel to Freddy vs. Jason. But please no more teens getting killed in their dreams. The originals were good enough.

Freddy's Nightmares was the name. Or I suppose "Tales From The Crypt Lite". Entertaining when I was a kid, but virtually unwatchable now.

I'm looking forward to the remake. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was entertaining. I also have high hopes for the Friday the 13th remake.

Anyhoo, CHUD's take on the story from yesterday. http://chud.com/articles/articles/13432/1/A-NIGHTMARE-ON-DUMB-ST/Page1.html

Bah, I don't see why you all feel the need to bash this. If it turns out to be creepy enough, I will take my girl to watch it.

Actually, that proof came when they decided to start remaking (good) movies that were less than 3 years old just so they could have (bad) American actors in them.

Read the article and I don't necessarily agree with their line of thought about Englund's chance in getting in on the remake. Everyone who is going to see this movie already knows about Nightmare on Elm Street and knows that Robert Englund has, and will always be the ONLY Freddy.

New Line knows this as well...why? Because of the legions of fans who would just as soon die for Robert Englund as well as vice versa. They also knew this because they cast him in Freddy vs. Jason. If they were planning on re-casting him, they would have done that in Freddy vs. Jason which was beneath the surface their introduction of the character and the series to a new generation.

I have strong faith that Englund will once again don the Fedora and red and green sweater, and that is the only light of hope I see in this ridicuous quest for more money.

Meh. I couldn't care less really. I hope they do a good job though, because all these recent horror remakes suck. As long as it is better than Halloween was, I'm in.
