Couldn't find a thread on this, plus the lineup always changes, so inspired by 'the worst VG adaptation' thread, here's whats up next - maybe your 'most wanted' adaptation is amongst them: Tekken (2009) The Legend of Spyro 3D (2009) Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva (2009) Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (May 28, 2010) The King of Fighters (2010) BloodRayne III: Warhammer (2010) Clock Tower (2010) Mortal Kombat: Devastation (2010) Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) Dead Space (2011) Gears of War (2011) Mass Effect (2012) In production or announced: Left 4 Dead American McGee’s Alice Area 51 Army of Two BioShock Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars Castlevania Citizen Siege City of Heroes Dante's Inferno Deus Ex Devil May Cry Doom 2 Dragon's Lair Drift City Driver Duke Nukem Earthworm Jim EverQuest F.E.A.R Fear Effect God of War Halo Hitman 2 Hunter: The Reckoning Infamous Just Cause Kane & Lynch Lost Planet Mass Effect MechWarrior Medievil Metal Gear Solid Metroid Need For Speed The Neverhood Nightmare Creatures Onimusha Pac-Man Return to Castle Wolfenstein Shadow of the Colossus Silent Hill 2 Soul Calibur Spy Hunter The Sims The Suffering Tomb Raider 3 Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Uncharted: Drake's Fortune The Unforgettable World of Warcraft
At least 90% of announced video game adaptions never make it through to completion. Given the general quality of the ones that do succeed it's probably a good thing.
The only thing in that list I found remotely interesting was Castlevania. Everything else...just...blech...
Oh...hells...yeah... As long as they toss the peelz in there! Grabbin peelz! L4D would have so much potential for awesomeness!
where the hell did you hear about a F.E.A.R movie? seriously...it's the first i have heard about it...and i am obsessed about F.E.A.R
Professor Layton...? How can you possibly make a movie that's a series of derivative mini-games packaged as shovelware? Also, where's Tetris: The Movie?
Some of them could be good. But I wont be holding my breath. Personally I'd like to see God of War the most.
make it a standard mystery and Layton and the kid have to solve puzzles. of course it will take 5 seconds.. I can kinda see that working. Mass Effect will become a generic sci-fi movie L4D - standard Zombie movie.
Gears has Cliffy B. involved so I have high hopes for it. The fact that the creator of the series itself is adding his input doesn't make me as worried as any other of these movies that are supposedly being done.
This is very true. If only the 10% left were guaranteed to be terrific, eh? L4D would be in danger of being a sort of Romero rip off on film, but you never can tell, perhaps they'll do something different that will set it apart from the rest of the Zombie schlock. Yeh, the ratio does lean more towards 'suck' unfortunately. Perhaps we need a high profile project like MGS to raise the bar further and show that these properties deserve respect. There was talk that Spielberg love 'Bioshock' and that he may be inclined to at least produce a film. Still, just a rumour, but that kind of director on board a VG adaptation would help I think. Silent Hill IMO is the best example so far, it set the bar higher. Its a list cobbled from across the web, but as llamatron said, just cos its announced, means nothing. 'Nightmare Creatures' was announced and the film rights were sold years ago, then..... nothing. I had never heard of Layton, but Tetris The Movie sounds intriguing! Hell yeh. I'd love to see one. My only worry is, can cinema match the epicness of the game? Yeh, its looks OK. The Legend of Spyro (2010)
There's also a fan made Mega Man movie being made (and apparently, close to being finished). Here's a link to the site: MEGAMAN My opinions so far regarding the trailer (keeping in mind that it's fan-made and very low budget): - Don't like how the timeline is messed up (Rock should've been the second bot built behind Proto Man, but it seems that at least Roll and probably the other 6 original RMs came before him in this movie). - Also not really feeling Dr. Light so far (though he is better than Dr. Fudd from MM8 ) - I really like Dr. Wily, the guy seems made for the role - I'm definitely going to see more of Proto Man (or who I'm assuming is Proto Man), as I'm kind of indifferent towards his design at the moment.
