Saw it and really really liked it (this is coming from a person who was not a fan of Les Mis to start...not that I didn't like it, I just had not seen much about it before. My wife had explained some and I had heard a few songs but that is it)

I saw the preview for this when I saw my first showing of Skyfall, and I won't lie, it looked like a magnificent epic. Well worth a look in my book; and the only musicals I like are Rocky Horror, Grease and Blues Brothers.

Saw this twice now..the production of this movie was amazing, from sets, costumes, to the actors..they made no attempt to glam them up--sometimes looking frightening even. Anne Hathaway stole the role of Fantine, and her version of I dreamed a Dream..well..damn..That and Marius's Empty Tables..fantastic. They both need whatever awards can be thrown at them in large heaping piles. I thought Hugh did an ok job--he made him seem like a real man--he didn't make the roll Broadway like..But sadly I kinda think he and Russel Crowe were probably the 2 weakest singers/performers out there. Amanda's Cosette was nice enough..her little bird chirping style of singing..I've never cared for that no matter who was singing....but, she did the character just fine. It was truly great seeing Colm Wilkinson in there, he was just so warm playing that roll--and then added in at the end, original Val Jean taking new Val Jean into "heaven" was just fantastic. All in all they really did do a great phenomenal job of bringing this Broadway production into a movie and certainly made it their own..Well done!
