I saw these on e-Bay. The seller claims that they were intended to be Target exclusives but were cancelled.

I never recall seeing anything on the Megatron figure. However, I do remember the Prime was once listed on Hasbro's Transformer WebSite. Too bad, I really liked him in those uniform colors and would have bought him. Personally, IF they did release both these figures in these colors then I would not hesitate one bit to buy them. I just never liked their original color schemes (or Megatron's repaint for that matter).

So what do you think of the two?

i agree, just the uniformed colors of the prime bots, would of improved the look of the normal energon prime if they were on him. and i am just happy to see a verison of megatron, that is not repainted to galvatron!.

If they repaint energon prime (since so far, they never did for the line) they should make his robot mode have a red body, blue head legs and arms, the 4 vechile limbs blue, and his trailer grey. then in both modes (regular and super) he'd really look like Optimus Prime!
I agree with you^ and thik it is the symmetry of colors in his scheme that really helps the figure in any of it's modes.

Megatron on the other hand looks great in those colors^. Plus, we've already got 2 Energon Megatrons that are in Generation One Megatron and Galvatron colors. Now all we need in an Energon Optimus Prime in a Gen. 1 color scheme and the circle will be complete.

    - that's a Star Wars reference for all of you who didn't get it.

Test shots for both of them appeared around the same time as all the other unreleased Energon, Universe (grey BW Deluxe Cheetor, Tarantulas repaint, blue Mutant Soundwave and Transmetal Waspinator repaint; Seacons; Smokescreen and Drench; Spacewarp) and reissue test shots (Ramjet), around May 2004.

Then, sometime last year, Hasbro updated their checklist of all American Transformers toys ever on their website, but accidentally included several toys that never actually came out. Among those toys were listings for Target exclusive "Optimus Prime with Mini Optimus Prime" and "Megatron & Soundwave" toys, which was the first and only confirmation for their intended Target exclusive-ness.

Now, what are "Mini Optimus Prime" and "Soundwave"? My best guess would be that "Santa Prime" and grey/neon green Megatron would have come with STF Prime and STF Soundwave, as Hasbro hinted at OTFCC 2004 that those two toys would be the STF toys that had the best chance for a US release, depending on retailer support.

I remember when pix of those were first first floating around...few people liked them and they were calling the Optimus repaint "Santa Prime" and everyone was up in arms that the Megatron mold wasn't going to be repainted into Galvatron. Personally I passed on the Galvatron repaint, but I'd have been into getting that black and green color scheme.

I'd like that Micron Legend LD inspired Megatron, but that's too rich for my interest.

I'm not a fan of that Prime, but if I had the spare cash, I'd be all over that Megatron!
