While watching the movie, I realized Sentinel Prime killed IRONHIDE but I never understood why. Id like to know the reason why Sentinel killed IRONHIDE for no reason whatsoever.

Lennox ordered Ironhide to protect Sentinel, who in actuality, was about to steal the pillars out of the hanger. Ironhide was the only Autobot who had the firepower to kill Sentinel Prime. That's why Sentinel shot him from behind, because if Ironhide had been facing the traitor, it would have been a different story.

Once Ironhide was dead, the other Autobots scattered, allowing Sentinel to go after the Pillars and escape before Optimus arrived.

Ohh so thats why he did it, im not surprised though because IRONHIDE would most likely win that fight. You know cause of all the weapons he has.

-'Cause Sentinel was a traitor to the Autobots and only cared about restoring Cybertron?

-'Cause Ironhide would pose a formidable threat, once Sentinel's true motives were discovered?

-'Cause Ironhide was right in front of him (with his back to him) when Sentinel revealed his true motives?

-A display of brutality and superiority made just prior to recovering his pillars in the hopes that everyone else (Autobots and soldiers alike) would merely stand down and not try to stop him?

-Though seemingly "unnecessary" at the time, Sentinel was planning to kill all the Autobots on Earth anyway (see: Starscream blasting the Autobots ship while departing Earth... the departure that Sentinel demanded.) So Ironhide would have bought it eventually, regardless of when.

    -'Cause he could??

    Pick 1.

Hey you used one my Images, I feel as though I've made a mark on the world.
But yeah it's been more than half a year other users have stated that it's because Ironhide was close to Optimus, He was the (second) strongest Autobot.

Well, he wanted to kill them all, but he only got a chance to kill Ironhide. Bumblebee evaded and the rest were part of Lennox's patrol.

I seriously doubt Ironhide would be able to take on SP.....hell, Optimus was getting his ass handed to him, Ironhide would be no match

Lots of good answers. I was wondering this myself, since Bay tends to kill off characters for very random reasons (Jazz in TFTM, Arcee(s) in ROTF, etc.).

I think it would be pretty annoying to see every Autobot go out with slow motion, sad music playing, heroic sacrificial death. I like how indiscriminately they die in the films (asides from Prime and Bee, of course).

Jazz's death was anything but random.

From a writing standpoint, Ironhide was the only character who was simultaneously strong enough that his death would cement Sentinel as a legitimate threat and skilled rival in combat for Optimus later in the movie, and who was simultaneously expendible to the story and marketing campaign (they weren't going to kill Prime or Bumblebee, since they want to promote them as much as possible and they'd already killed Prime before).

In one of the interviews on the DVD set, Bay stated that after going over the final battle script, he needed to kill off at least one Autobot and Jazz was chosen. There was no reason for this other than he wanted a casualty on the Autobot side and Jazz was small enough that Megatron could tear him in half.

Ironhide is the strongest autobot next to Optimus and he's second in command.

I have to disagree with you saying Ironhide would likely win the fight.
Sentinel Prime has 3 perks, a war-shield, huge Primax Blade, Cosmic Rust Cannon. Oh, and a fourth one, he's a Prime. Optimus' teacher, he knows his stuff, he knows combat.
Sentinel probably could of taken down Ironhide either way, but if Ironhide saw it coming, he would put up a fight.
