I would argue that one of the reasons RID gets very little discussion, & even fizzled out in terms of discussion before it could finish its first airing, is because brought nothing new to the table. So while we did wind up with a bunch of new characters, RID added nothing new to the mythos.

BW introduced sparks, the Vok, and the idea of blending organics with machines.

BM explored TF religion, technorganics, plant transformers.

    Armada gave us MiniCons

Cybertron gave us colonial planets, and a whole pantheon of Primes.

TFP gave us Unicron as Earth, the scraplets their first on-screen representation, etc.

RID gave us a standard battle between bots & cons but did it expand the mythos in any way?

    Replying to Hollywood Hoist:
RID is no where near the same level of experimentation as BM, good grief. It still has a fan favorite (for kids) as leader, and Optimus is still in the show, and the Decepticons are channeling Ravage and Laserbeak... nothing groundbreaking here. I also wouldn’t call an animation style (Animated) bold or different. It still appeals to kids. Beast Machines was spiritual and mildly political, and you’re comparing that to the AEC gimmicks? Must you argue about EVERYTHING?!

Rescue Bots is probably the closest thing to a complete reimagining since BM. It's really the only other one that can't be summed up with "Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons".

RiD'01 really went backwards, reintroducing concepts like Autobots and Decepticons, Earth vehicle disguises, "the" Optimus and Megatron, etc..

Love is a strong word, but I'll certainly be friends with AOE. Play videogames, get lunch together. Hang out.

Yawn, how about you actually read my post, man you are so aggressive. I'm not sure where you got I was arguing as I was agreeing with the original post.

    here is my original post.

The new RiD is trying something new with the Decepticons being all beasts and Bumblebee is the leader. Each series has tried to do things a little differently, Animated had a very unique style for Transformers, but most of it was homages with a few new characters. A/E/C each added a gimmick but was still a lot of homages with a few new characters.

I for the most part agree with you it certainly seemed to be the last time Transformers really struck out of the box in both style, characters and story.

I agreed that BM really created something different. So there was no argument.

The rest of the my post was regarding how each series has brought something new. Not to the extent of BM, but each added something to the franchise. Animated style was bold and different compared to all other Transformers cartoon styles.

Me, too! Truth be told, AOE was one of those rare instances in TF fiction and certainly the only in the movieverse where I loved every Transformer, whether they were main characters or minor minions. Even the Stupid Drones have grown on me.

I like the G1 Season 2 cast as much as the original 1984 cast. Beachcomber, Cosmos, the Coneheads, and others are all excellent and underused additions to the roster.

The dinobots didn't really do anything for me in the movie, and I don't think they added anything to the plot at all.

They were actually added in the last minute of AOE since they were originally going to show up in TF5.

Wait, does this mean they might come back in TF5?

Because a I loved the Scorn toy, and I wanted to pick up Slash but didn't like the current mold. I'd love for them to give the characters another crack in the next movie line.

I still haven't seen any TF movies after ROTF, but if TF5 can evolve AOE toys like ROTF did the first movie line, I'd be down for it.

Um... Unpopular Opinion: Alt-mode Scale matters to me? It's the deciding factor on a lot versions of which figures I get. Jets gotta be Voyager at minimum (preferebly Ultra-leader) Cars and trucks gotta be around deluxe, Motorcycles legends sized etc... It's the deciding factor between me picking up the Hasbro Defensor over Guardia or Prometheus.

I personally think Animated was one of the worst Transformer series of all time.

I know this will anger people, I believe that David Kaye is a horrible Optimus Prime, Orion Pax possibly cool, Optimus Prime NEVER!

I don't know why they changed so much on the ranking system of the Autobots, and made Ultra Magnus, 1 not only british, but 2 THE LEADER! What part of I'm just a soldier did they not understand?

They were trying too hard to be G1 like and yet failed so terribly at it. Although, while I don't like British sounding Megatron's, this one is probably the coolest (barring David Kaye's Beast Wars, while I never watched Beast Wars, I can't put him behind another British sounding Megatron).

I personally never liked 2-d animated Transformers. I think CGI is great for them, and is perfectly used, but that's a little more nit-picky.

Bulkhead was kind of annoying to me, and Bumblebee was a little rough, but Prowl was pretty cool to me. And Starscream, while extremely obvious, was pretty cool.

Blackarachnia isn't cool, although I didn't mind the connection to Elita 1 so that was cool, but they ruined the Dinobots completely and totally.

Sentinel was alright, but he can be extremely annoying! I didn't get it.

And Optimus Prime lost all his qualities, this one wasn't noble or really all that mature, he was kind of immature on several occasions, and didn't feel like that noble Optimus we've seen before.

I don't know, to me it's a lot about voices, but this show ran deeper then that, it just never made any sense to me, and I thought it was really stupid a lot of times.

That only applies to G1 Ultra Magnus. Animated Ultra Magnus does not have to follow the path of his predecessor, just as many robots in this franchise have not. Ergo, while he's content with being a soldier in G1, he can be the leader in this other continuity.

He's a jerk. He was designed to be a jerk to contrast him against the more amiable Optimus, as well as point out that just because he's an Elite Guard against Optimus' wash-out repair-man doesn't make him a better Autobot.

That's the point. This is an Optimus who hasn't started in the awesome super leader position other Optimus' tend to start at, so we follow him through his journey as he grows from a wash-out into a hero.

Different versions of characters have different interpretations. From Spider-man, to Supes, to even Sherlock Holmes.

How was this version of Optimus not noble? I mean, noble just means being heroic and Optimus never did anything evil or even mean on screen. To my knowledge, the worst things he did was take Sari's key from her and consider sending Super-Sari against the possessed Omega Supreme. He blamed himself for Elita-1's 'death,' even though it was Sentinel's fault, and he risked his life for his companions, even dying to stop Starscream.

It's highly possible they'll return in TF5 and/or TF6 because they have strong ties to Optimus's origins by the creators.

While I disagree with your opinion on TFA, I agree with this.

The voice acting actually can make or break a character for me.
