Regarding MGMT, Oracular Spectacular is a fantastic album. The follow-up, Congratulations, is pretty fucking unlistenable. Heads-Up-Their-Own-Ass-To-Appreciate-The-Smell-Of-Their-Own-Farts Rock.
Unpopular opinion: Pop music of the 2010s is the best pop has been since the 1960s and early 70s. The diversity and talent that comes with acts like Bruno Mars, Phillip Phillips, Lady Gaga, .fun, The Lumineers, and older acts like Pink, Maroon 5, and Justin Timberlake staying relevant has resulted in a greater mix of styles and talents in pop music than any other time in the past 40 years. Better than the 00s, where everything had the same hip hop beat. Better than the boy bands of the late 90s, the 'white kids discover hip hop' of the late 80s/ early 90s, the new wave crap of the early to mid 80s, or the lethal combination of disco and James Taylor/ Dan Fogelberg of the mid to late 70s.
