Plain and simple, who's interpretation of these two characters do you honestly like best? Don't rely on just nostalgia, but also think, who's voice do you truly believe (to this date) has made a good reflection of the overall idea of the character?

Personally, my favorite Optimus belongs to Garry Chalk, I really like how he sounds. I grew up and saw some G1 reruns as a wee lad, but it never strongly impacted me, but I was around for Beast Wars/Machines, and Primal really landed one for me. I also hear his voice in those Cybertron cartoons (which I didn't watch/care for) but it just sounded like a perfect fit. It has that flair of heroism, integrity, and, at times, naivety.

As for Megatron, while I did enjoy Hugo Weaving with the monster-ish voice, to help give a menasing and fearful essence to Megatron. Though, I had to really consider that these are basically supposed to be people, mortals, with giant metallic bodies, and simply having a monster as the "bad guy" really doesn't do it for me when I try to shift the characters out of their robot bodies and into that of fleshlings. So then when I continue to think, one voice that really REALLY made sense to me was Corey Burton's in Animated. He sounds collected and confident, how a military leader should sound. Not reacting to every emotional impulse, but knowing when to layeth the smacketh down, when necessary.

Optimus voices are a tie for me. I loved Gary Chalk's Primal in BW, but I did grow to rather like David Kaye's Prime in animated. He was really able to get across the whole "maturing into a leader" thing quite nicely.

This isn't to say Peter Cullen was bad or anything, but given the level of dialogue G1 had, I can't really hold the style in comparison.

Megatron...gah it's a tossup between Animated, BW, and ROTF. I wasn't that thrilled with how he sounded in the first movie, as it was too "generic evil overlord" and I honestly couldn't tell it was Weaving. By the time ROTF came around however, it sounded like the editing people had eased up a bit and I could actually hear Weaving's voice behind the character. It was an improvement.

Peter Cullen will always be Optimus Prime in my book.

As for Megatron, that's a very tough decision. I love Frank Welker for G1 nostalgia, but David Kaye, Hugo Weaving, and Corey Burton are also good.

Optimus would have to be a tie between Kaye in Animated Cullen in the recent movies.

Favourite Megatron would be Kaye in BW with Weaving in an uncomfortably close second for ROTF specifically.

Who's David Kayne? Is he like a close cousin of David Kaye?

Okay, enough of being a jerk and back on topic.
OPtimus Prime : Peter Cullen for the movies. His voice has really changed for the better ever since G1. Much more old and wisdom-ic than his G1 self, which sounded like a teenager compared to the movieverse voice IMO.

    Megatron : Corey Burton FTW
