I bought another SS today to replace a few parts, and I noticed that his "ears" have holes in them where the springs are put through. Can anyone who has bought one recently confirm this, or is this just a (bizarre) QC error?
I don't see any holes in the ears of my Sunstreaker, at least not visible outside the head. If I were to guess, I'd think it's a running change to help the ear-spring(s) work more reliably.
I can confirm this. I noticed it the other day on Henkei Sunstreaker, who also has the holes instead of the little stair-step-shaped notch on the first round of Hasbro Sunstreaker. For those with "holed" versions, in the earlier version the spring arm just presses up against a little step in the side of the ear, it doesn't actually thread through a hole. I didn't realize the latest Hasbro versions had it too. Personally I'm not a fan. The version of the ears with the little holes don't seem to lie horizontally flat... instead they droop a bit on each side, ruining the nice horizontal line of the ears (at least on my version, hopefully other people's work better). I disliked it so much, in fact, that I swapped heads between my Hasbro and Henkei versions (since the Henkei version is the one I keep displayed in robot mode). I wish I could take photos to show the difference, but I don't have a camera with me right now. If no one has posted them by this evening, I'll see if I can get some.
I think it's actually the front half of the face that makes them droop. Because I was going to swap out the faces of my Partsstreaker and Sunstreaker, who has normal ear,s, and they drooped when the new face was put on.
Wow! I just got my Henkei Sunstreaker and I TOTALLY didn't even notice the ears being slightly different until you guys pointed it out: Henkei Sunstreaker: [att]7608[/att] Universe Sunstreaker: [att]7609[/att]
