Many Transformers may recall having met Barricade before, but they usually remember that the Decepticon was somewhat different than he is now. Maybe taller? Perhaps more soldier-like? Regardless, Barricade is a rising threat in the Decepticon ranks, using his alt mode to lure unsuspecting victims into a false security, before springing an oft-lethal trap. His hyperactive Micron partner, Nightstick, is just as bad, lurking in the shadows to gather useful intel on Autobots and Decepticons alike. So, like many, I'm not over-fond of the movie-verse designs, but the character of Barricade always appealed to me, or at least the concept of a crooked police character. Not wanting to go the Black Prowl route, I settled on one of my favorite molds, Cybertron Downshift, or at least the Big Daddy version. The idea was inspired, in part, by "crooked cop" characters, such as Rosco P. Coletrain from "Dukes of Hazzard", and other, less friendly-types. After several false starts, including experiments with dye and paint to get the colors I wanted, I had almost shelved this idea for lack of a Barricade-like head. Then the Bot Shots came out. Problem solved! After swapping out the orange bits for silver from a spare Downshift, modding a light bar from a 1/24th model kit, and giving up on painted doors in favor of reflective pinstriping tape, I'm finally happy enough with the results to show them off! Still on my to do list: Finding a junker first movie Barricade to rob the push bumper from. I like how the claw feature kind of resembles Barricade's headlight claws in the film, so I want that feature to stay. Also, I'm waiting on some Reprolabels to finish the police deco. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.
