Except for the fact that Overkill WAS a dino. They got rid of the outdated mode, and kept the original. They've done that with all of the newer cassette-inspired - kept their alt modes, but ditched the "makes no sense" cassette mode.
Grimlock's a Tyrannosaurus, Overkill is a Tyrannosaurus. If there's any good G1 character to repaint a Grimlock toy into, its Overkill. Your other examples don't have any precedence - there's nothing connecting Rodimus to Rumble: Rumble may have had an Alternators toy but it doesn't mean any car would be suitable. A different head for Drag Strip is one thing but they can't really put an extra two wheels onto a toy not designed for them.
That is true, but there is one exception, the Universe Ravage figure we'll be getting with Hound. Personally I don't have a problem with cassette-bots getting upgrades like this, especially when they're repaints of molds I really like Edit: I just remembered something, and now that I think about it, I find the Overkill very odd, since he was the Customizing class figure for Botcon '07. Anybody else find that odd? Maybe the customizing class figures aren't under the same agreement as the other exclusive figures, since they're kitbashes.
Very intrigued and impressed. I know the Prime mold isn't the best, but the packaging is snazzy and I'm a Prime/Convoy collector so consider him bought. Drag Strip and Overkill are instant buys. Wonder when pics will show up of those?
Overkill and Dragstrip will be mine, MINE I say!!! Also, more Stunticons please Hasbro, ya can't stop at just one on me.
GAH! More for me to get?!?! GAH!!! *goes off and rants and raves* Seriously, glad that these are coming out. The packaging is top notch, and I can't WAIT to see Dragstrip and Overkill. THOSE are the ones I want.
i wonder why they're doing overkill since he was done at Botcon two years ago...seems like that would be off limit, but maybe not since it was part of the customizing...
The packaging looks awesome and its black and Megatron is in G1 colors that is another bonus, so let us know when these are available. Me I might not get them, but it depends.
They look cool. But something about megatron just looks not that good. I guess im use to seeing megatron that color for the toy. I could just be use to useing the Gree color of him. But other than that they do look cool.
Great packaging. Those crappy Deluxe Megs and Prime molds will be skipped but Dragstrip and Overkill.....HELL yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So we have Hotrod to Wildrider and Mirage to Dragstrip. Prime is just begging for a new head and a Motormaster re-paint. I can see the Sideswipe to Brakedown re-paint coming from a mile away. The only questions I have are: Who will be Dead End (I dont think the 350Z mold cuts it) to complete the Stunticon Set? And How quickly will Hasbro have that in a $60 Giftset?
I'd probably consider getting Drag Strip since I actually like the Mirage mold but the others? No way.
Drag Strip is the real juicy bit of this news. Fantastic! Well, that and the fact that this looks like the first volley of a new Universe sub-line, which can only be good news. And they're North American releases? Hot damn! THAT'S the most surprising thing to me about this.... they've got "Henkei" written all over them. Anyhow, as for these toys themselves: Megs looks pretty great in G1 colors. Aside from the spinny, fall-apart arm I have always been fine with this figure, and these colors give it a new life. As for Prime.... well, it's not a good mold. But its robot mode is passable, and since that mode is showcased so nicely in this packaging, it'll make a good MISB display piece to go behind other Universe/Classics figs. Bring on more examples of this line! If we're faction-swapping molds into obscure combiner-team members, and need some Autobots, maybe the Seeker mold into Air Raid?
