When I got my Masterpiece Skywarp, and he was based on the G1 toy
it took me a little while for the mold to grow on me, but now I love it.
I wanted a Thindercracker, and I don't care for the color scheme of the
Takara TC, so I decided to make a Toon / realistic hybrid, to go with
my Skywarp on the shelf, since God only knows when we'd get an official
    Hasbro TC release.....

    my Universe Thundercracker deluxe custom

Now that Walmart has clearanced Skywarp, I bought another one to make
Thundercracker. I am not using the metallic Tamiya paints that I used for my
Deluxe Thundercracker, I wanted a more realistic hue for a jet, so I opted
for a satin / matte finish, I have to get the clearcoat I will be using for the
jet mode before I finally assemble all of him. I have a few more things to paint,
but I got a few pics of what I have so far assembled, I am trying to have
patience in this as I always rush to see the final piece, but I always screw
something up... not this time though.

EDIT: added pics of a still incomplete bot mode...many small details left to
do, and as for the stripes...I may go with decals for a clean look....not sure
how my painting skills will do for taping without bleeding...may try but not
likely, if I F up the wings I will probably beat my head into a wall, after all
the work I spent getting the paint just right.

Nice work so far. The paint looks really clean and I like the shade of blue you're using.

I think it looks really good too and it's cool that you are going for a realistic color for this one. I also took advantage of that Walmart deal going on and will be re-doing Skywarp to be 100 percent cartoon accurate. I'm also going to do another seeker as well but it's undercover for now.

    Let's see those bot pics!!!

    Added more pics....

I appreciate the comments...this is my biggest undertaking to do a real good
job on..and hopefully all turns out as perfect as possible when the paint cures
for a while...meaning no Transforming or posing for a while so final pics will be
a bit off about a week or so.

I still have to detail the inside of the forearms, paint the fingers, finish the
wings, finish pushing the pins in.....blah blah...you can see all I still have to
do....and for those wondering, I did leave certain parts black for a reason,
more so for details and accents, not because I couldn't paint right or something.
I mean his other color besides blue and silver / white (depending on preference)
    is black.

I hope you like what you see so far, I do, and I think he will be right at home next to Skywarp and if I ever get a Starscream.

    Ebay:
If you want to try taping your stripes, try Pactra or Tamiya masking tapes. They're good for fine lines, and they dont take paint with them when you peel it off. Any other masking tape I've tried has bled through, or taken the paint with it, resulting in said desire to beat head against wall. Looks good, I'm a fan of these figures too, just started my Thundercracker as well.

Again thanks for the comments, I appreciate them. I will soon post the
completed figure sometime next week...and I will I think begin work on
Starscream, IF I can get another Skywarp

I actually got my desired striping by using Picture It, and printing them out
along with the needed Con symbols on a solid sticker sheet and clear coating
them with matte finish. I then etched the panel lines into the stickers with my
thumbnails and a few fine instruments.

I am still slowly working out the details, and mostly waiting for my paint.

(The stripes in the following pics are not the final stripes, these are uncoated
and darker than the final stripes will be, just used as a mock-up)
