Finally got around to finishing this guy up.
He started as a Universe Inferno (awesome figure) I started by replacing the hands with Alternator hands. Next up was finding a proper crane. I used Mudflap (awesome for parts and ratcheting joints) The crane attaches to his back with a small clip and back up rare earth magnets. It attached the same fashion to the alt mode. I made the gun for his left arm more easily removable.

The fun started getting out of control when I added the LED lights. I removed the interior of the cabin to accommodate the power supply, wiring, etc. Then removed the lights up top, drilling small holes where the 3mm LED bulbs stick up out of. There's a button on his side window which controls these lights. There are 3 settings, independent flashing, in sync flashing, and always on.

The bulbs are red, and I painted the interior of the light fixtures with translucent red also.

I painted Grapple with an enamel yellow/orange. 2 thin air brushed coats, not as difficult as I thought. I wanted Grapple to be more modern looking so I steered away from the 'over the edge' orange of his original. I top coated the yellow/orange with a thin coat of metallic "Amber yellow" (awesome color) then final coated with "tequila sunrise" lacquer from House of Kolors. This color actully is pearl/iridescent. In person, if you were to look at this paint close up, you can see a slight alteration of the hue from certain angles.

A video demonstrating the lights in action can be seen here:
I suck at creating videos, and unsure how to change the dark gray to black on his borders, also, the compression seemed to make him very orange :(

That's a very nice yellow. And the crane totally works well with the Inferno mold. I also like that you added alt hands.

Awesome detailing. By the way, the link to Youtube shows that the video is unavailable, but I can see it on Flickr.

Thanks! Not at the moment, got other bigger things coming soon though ;)

yeah, the dude who won the Inferno auction actually requested alt hands too. Alt hands fit perfectly, there's even room to spare while TF'd into alt mode. Simple, quick and easy to mod in. I cut off the hand slightly past the wrist leaving some of the original fist (about 1/8 inch) I took some alt hands, cut off and flattened where the ball joint peg is, then drilled a small screw hole for support where I put in a threaded rod, and epoxied the parts together. The original hands have the plastic to allow them to rotate, which is inside the forearm.

hehe, we wish. Hasbro might do the repaint, but most likely not the crane, which is the element (in my opinion) that makes Grapple himself.

yeah, I think youtube lags on "processing" the video - maybe double check I'm not uploading porn again. It should work in a few minutes.

God I hope you use Alt Hands for my Inferno. One nice thing about being in line to get a custom of this mold is that by the time you get to me he'll have most of the awesomeness that you put in these others combined.(I hope) Can't wait. Don't care if it cost a little extra either.

EDIT: Just noticed the lights too. Man you need to email before you start on mine.

    Thanks!
I doubt it. Knowing Hasbro, they will avoid easy path and take a shortcut through the ghetto and redeco Inferno as Prime or something. All they'd really need to do is swap the red with a yellowy orange. I'm sure most can live without the crane.

Someone beat me to this? I'd love to see some pics seeing mine is now complete, I'd love to see the angle they took.

He will be on auction soon, like always - I'll start bidding at $.01 without reserve. Glad you like him, thanks!

I will for sure. I didn't even know you were a TFW member, that's awesome. Thanks...John!

Thanks. I should do hoist as a bonus item, that might be cool. Any ideas who to use? Incidentally, I looked over at some parts from Mudflap which I am using for articulation on something major. The idea started with that crane. Then I repainted Inferno, and put 1 and 1 together. Like peanut butter and chocolate. ;)

As for Hoist you could use Alternators Prime. I've seen a lot of customs done with Prime as Hoist. I think you did one your self also.

Nice job on Grapple! If hasbro doesn't make one of these i'm going to have to get you to make me one, cause i've just got to have Grapple for my collection.
