Ugh

Classics Prime is not one of my favorites. I absolutely HATE the arm-kibble, the head is weird including the mouthplate, the yellow is painful.....I could go on, not to mention he looks like a young teenager Prime, not the powerhouse leader we love.

So yeah....no.

 

Just get Powered Commander and leave the chest and head piece off. Couple of shoulder guns and rifles off a vintage PMOP and you're golden. That's my plan anyway.

I don't remember all the details quite like that but it sounds about right. I remember some concept art from Don which was basically Classics Prime, but with "Deluxe Optimus Prime" in the notes next to the drawing. Didn't realize the deluxe version made it that far. I'm happy they went the way they did though, as Classics Prime is excellently sized as a voyager IMO, and I wouldn't have given two poops about a trailer for the most part.

Some things I noticed on the deluxe:

It doesn't appear to have the waist articulation.

It looks like the knees fit under the arms in truck mode, so no need for the folding kneepads. I like this better.

No holes on the arms for the smokestack gun to fit. I wonder if they had a different way to attach it, a differnet gun (but no smokestacks at all?) or if that was just not in the prototype but planned for the actual figure.

 

Remold the head and rename him Orion Pax I'd buy one and then the repaint Ultramagnus in Dion colors,

 

And somehow this piece of crap ended up being released as the deluxe figure? sigh...

 

Same here. I honestly think Classics Prime works best as Nemesis. It's not a bad mold, but it doesn't feel like Optimus.

I want it, feels alot more homey than his voyager class counterpart. And he would make a good funnies prop.

 

I think I would have preferred the Voyager size instead of the Deluxe.

 

That would've looked so much better in the Prime vs. Megs 2-pack. And on the up-side, I like the Classics Prime mold, so a down-scaled version would've been bought in a heart beat.

lol exactly. He was always a rip-off without the trailer and I wouldn't have even bought one if not for a sale at amazon.

 

In the concept art, he had two smoke stacks similar to the original G1 figure. They were attached to his forearm and would flip down to become arm blasters IIRC.
