So I guess this is like Sunstorm #590,396 or something huh?

Anyway, just a simple, straight, old DW comic version repaint of the new Universe Starscream.

Colors are Tamiya's bottled acrylic Orange, and Tamiya's spray Orange(which, oddly enough, is a different shade...) and Fusion white. Now unfortuately, what you can't seen in the pics, but looks fantastic in person, is the pearl coating on the whole figure. Tamiya Pearl White covers the white parts, and Testors Turn Signal Amber was sprayed over both oranges, which also lightened them a bit. It's really a shame I couldn't get it to show up in photo's. It's subtle at first in person, but looks really great, and kinda gives Sunstorm that "bristling with insane power" appearence.

The wing stirpes were just masked off, and so are retained from Starscream. Also the canopy has been tinted with Tamiya Smoke.

you can make that show up for you, ya just gotta take a macromode shot :)  he looks beautiful! Which Tamiya orange is which? I wanna use a similar color for mine, but I can't find one that is this color, yet with some white injected into it to get that "cream" color.

Nope, I take all my pics in Macro. I'm just not a skilled enough photographer, and/or don't have the right camera for taking super clear high res shots of my stuff. I'm sure if I had the right lens, and a proper lightbox, etc I could take some better pics, but oh well.

The lighter orange is the bottled acrylic, while the darker is the spray can. Both oranges were darker orignally, the Turn Signal Amber is a translucent metallic yellow, so it changed the color of the oranges as well as added a pearl finish. However, even before the Amber, I thought both oranges looked great for Sunstorm.

This guy looks excellent. You really did a great job here. I have to paint 4 of them for my "seeker" superion and I heard that this mold is difficult to paint. Any issues with rubbing particularily on the fists or the legs? Was it any more difficult than your other repaints or was it about the same? Keep up the good work.

I dare say that this is my favorite custom "Classics/Universe" Sunstorm I've seen to date, and we've seen quite a few really excellent ones. Great job, man! The subtle oranges really set this off for me. :thumb

I wouldn't say its really any more or less difficult than any other deluxe mold, but it's definitely a paint scraper! This is probably like my 5th or 6th repaint of this mold, so I've learned a few of the spots to watch out for. Surprisingly, I've never hand any issues with the fists rubbing, and you can see that I left the whole sliding knee block unpainted to avoid any potential there. The big things to look out for are the feet and the tailwings, I trim/sand that joints on them in an attempt to prevent any scraping...but it still happens somtimes. You've gotta make sure the legs are totally lined up straight when sliding them up, or theres a good chance you'll scratch the thighs.
    Hope that helps some.
