Yes, yes I know this has been done to death already, but I wanted to take a crack at it just in case Hasbro never makes one. This is my first custom and I hope to do many more in the future. I'm using the Cybertron Downshift head and a Sideswipe body(couldn't find a spare Sunstreaker) for the figure. For the shoulder cannon I used the '76 Camaro Bumblebee's missile launcher with a spare G1 Prowl missile. I plan on painting him next weekend with GamesWorkshop Skull White if I can find it and G1 Wheeljack repolables are in the mail.

Edit:Managed to find a Sunstreaker loose for cheap at my local comic shop, so I'll be using that instead. I'd post pics but it's pretty much the same thing you see below but in yellow.

Edit:Toy's done! Came out pretty nice for my fisrt custom IMO, let me know what you think

Any plans for the wings? Wheeljack needs wings.

I've been putting some thought into it and have tried a few things, nothings worked so far. Most likely he'll eithe be wingless or I'll use the turbo engine block thingy as a cheap excuse for wings.

Only one thing i got to say to you: Good luck, you're gonna need it painting white on Swipe.

Oh, and are you gonna change the car front at all?

Is it really that hard to paint white over red? And by the car front do you mean the roof or the hood?

Yes, painting white on any TF is a pain in the ass at best.
I hope you don't get any bleed threw & get a pink WJ.
    Best of luck.

You know how Wheeljack has a bit sticking out under his front lights? That's what i mean.

Oh, and about white: I made a custom Star Saber once. I went through half a can of Spray paint (TEN coats!) and i still have Red showing through. And it was a lighter red than Swipe to begin with as well. Then i hand painted white (a few coats). Still have Red.

Have fun! :ev:  You'll be going :jawdropper:  after 3 coats or so.
There's a reason why there are many black repaints and few white repaints. One covers well, the other is sh*t.

Oh, and NP: Painting white is easy on some TF's If they were white to begin with. ;)

Pink WJ. Velocitron Arcee! Or at least a better Override. :lol

    Then what's the point:p

G1WJ, you have 2 options here.
    1) Get your self some good grey primer & then paint your white.
    2) Get yourself some Krylon Outdoor Spaces Cloud White & apply very thin coats of white (all most see-thru) .
Allow 15 to 20mins between coats, seems like a long time but you want the paint to dry a bit longer as not to get bleed-thru.
Repeat until you are happy with the coverage. This has worked for me in the past.

Make sure it's Outdoor Spaces & not Fusion, OSD will hold up 1000 times better then Fusion.

    There are more options:

3: Get someone to cast SS's parts in white.

    4: Do something else.

Granted, i'd go with Option 1.

My first attempts were white repaints, it can be done though (sadly mine never got that lucky), primer sounds good and then the white, I suggest spraying it over brushing for both colour and primer. If you do decide to use spray try and prop up your pieces, some people use tape, whatever you can find that will allow you to move it without touching it. I'm not 100% about paints but NPs suggestions and tips are solid. Take your time with it whatever you go for and the best of luck :)

Thanks for the advice, think I'll go w/Option #1. Are there any particular brands of primer you can reccomend?

I don't use primer myself, but from what I understand, get the best you can afford & you should be fine.
I would wait & see if anyone else has some better advice.

Welcome, Radicon! Don't sweat a custom that's been "done to death"; we all start somewhere! There's no better place to start than on a path well-trodden   I'm interested to see how this turns out, and I certainly hope we see more from ya! :thumb

Personally I'd recommend Rustoleum Plastic Primer. After that, which ever white paint you prefer. Good Luck!

    Ebay:
my advice would be to use a spray paint, i did mine over a sunstreaker in the same manner and it was a pain. spray then sand, 3 light coats and he should look good.

I don't think he does. but to each their own

i did my first attempt with brush on paint and it is very difficult to get a good coat on him that way.

Just take your time on him and i'm sure yours will come out great

Thanks for the welcome, I have few ideas to toy around with for future customs, but they're only ideas atm as I want to take things one step at a time.
I have been considering painting & modding G1 Hoist's wings to attatch to the engine block but then I'd be out a complete Hoist. I guess that's what the Radicons marketplace is for.
