Here is a quick comparison gallery for those of you on the fence with this one. We already know the figure for the most part but this will show you the differences between the two. Color and paint apps vary but all the plastic is the same color.

    Weapons are the same.

Me personally, I like the Hasbro version better. The United has the same issue as did the Japanese Animated figures. The random all over shinny paint apps, which make the figure look inconsistant.

I feel if the made the plastic colors darker to blend in with the shinny paint apps it may have helped it look less broken up.

Alt. mode looks ok with this issue but the robot mode seems to suffer more.

Since it was Soundwave, I needed it anyways for my Soundwave collection :D

    It looks terrible.

Shiny paint for the WFC figures is just inappropriate in the first place. The incomplete paint job and complete disregard for colour-matching the plastic bits is a complete deal-killer.

Definitely the weakest of the 5, deco-wise. The shiny paint just seems so indiscriminately applied.

A rare case of a Takara paintjob not being better than Hasbro's.

The darker blue looks nice but why did they only partially paint it in that color?

All the grey plastic areas should have been cast or painted in more of a silver color as well to really make it stand out.

As it is the United version looks like a half finished custom repaint of the Hasbro.

I guess I'm the few that actually likes metallic paint? I think it's cool, and i love how the glowy bits are much more pronounced, compared to the Hasbro one.

the parts that aren't metallic might be unpaintable plastic

I like the metallic blue, but I hate that pink. The dim purple was one of my favorite parts of the Hasbro release

I really think this would've worked out better if they just cast the parts in a consistent darker blue.

I'm thinking the same thing too. And I have to agree with miscreant, if the plastic itself was darker it wouldn't have stood out so horrendously like that.

Never realized how good the Generations version looked compared to this. I actually thought this would have been the best of the bunch.

I think your red background isn't really helping..the color is bleeding all over the figures! I think you're better off with a white one, maybe a black or grey one if you can't get a white one set up properly :)

Thanks for the comparison! Although the Hasbro one is far from perfect, paintwise, at least it's not all over the place like the Takara one!

Yeah, I noticed the background was black in the Megatron review..of course it's cool to try out new things, but strong colors like this don't really work in my opinion, especially when the item itself is a bit reflecting :)

Just trying to help, I really appreciate the time taken to take pictures of all the angles and write a review! :thumbs2:

Sometimes with this kinda thing it's better to see them close & upfront (as in person). we'll appreciate them much more better that way.

I've seen most of the recent TF-United releases & I'd say they really look damn good with all the metallic paint apps (btw I've also seen this TF-United Soundwave out of package too).
