As much as I love the Classics/Henkei/United mold of Megatron, I can't help but feel it's still lacking that classic cartoon look of G1 megatron. So, inspired by Spoonman & hXcpunk23's work I felt that I needed to change a couple of things.

Firstly the head, instead of trying to re-mold the head I thought that I'd swap the head to G2 Hero Megatron as I've always thought that the face on that mold looks a lot like the G1 cartoon face.

To give you a rough idea of how it will look, here it is in it's dodgy G2 colours:

Sadly the head doesn't have a ball joint but thankfully Satomiblood has jumped to the rescue and will be adding a ball joint once it arrives at his place.

The second thing that I wanted to change, was the chest. I did try contacting Spoonman to try and order one of his wonderful chest pieces but I haven't heard back from him so... I'm trying to make one myself! I've used styrene and a spare chest piece from my original Classics Megatron.

Now I need to add a few details, such as the vents at the bottom & the two triangle shape bits. So far I've been cutting with a stanley knife, but I'm not having much luck cutting the shapes out. What do you guys use?

    Edit: New Pic

Thanks for the shout out, man! Glad I could help inspire you a bit with yours!

If you can, pick up an X-Acto knife set from Wal-Mart or hit a hobby store and buy a couple of hobby knives (pretty much the same thing as an X-Acto). I have two sets (a Testors set I picked up before Wal-Mart stopped selling model paints and an older X-Acto set that I've had for about 15+ years). I also picked up a few single Testors hobby knives and I mostly use those when cutting my styrene, especially any small pieces or details.

Also, pick up a metal ruler (Target or Wal-Mart carry these) and a Sharpie ultra fine point permanent marker. I use the ruler and mark my styrene with the Sharpie to cut or do details in--the marker stays on the plastic, but it can wipe away if rubbed hard. You can lightly sand it away when done or simply paint over it.

Good luck and I'll be keeping an eye on this! You're off to a great start on it and if you need any help or tips, hit me up and I'll be glad to help out.

That head does work a lot better than the standard head. Looks great, although I wish we could get a new mold G1 Megatron at some point, this mold is kind of lacking overall.

Just a quick update. I ended up scrapping my chest as I just wasn't happy with it, luckilly Spoonman came through and sent me one of his custom chest pieces.

Also I'm waiting for my postman to deliver the G2 head that Satomiblood has modded for me, however I have just been test painting a spare G2 that I managed to pick up. So here is the test painted head sitting on the body with blu-tack :)

It looks really nice. Here's hoping you get the head in the mail very soon.

wow if it looked like that, even with the nerf colors I probably would have bought one.

Does the head and chest affect transformation?

Sadly the chest piece does get in the way of the transformation as it stops the shell/wings snapping into place whilst in gun mode. However, remove the chest piece and it's fine.

Yeah I guess you could do that. Personally I don't ever have him in gun mode. When he isn't being displayed, he will be taking part in my stop motion episodes.
