Shit, don't tease me like this. For all we know it could be the Earth again. XD
sigh. Okay, Unicron. Please, please, please not a space god version. Just let him be a rogue weapon or giant Cybertronian or something. And PLEASE no Primus.
But Unicron at all makes it seem like IDW is getting desperate.
Oh have I been waiting for this! I remember back in 2012 that James and John in some interview mentioned that had a plan for a (IDW/Hasbrow willing) 100 book run for RID/MTMTE. The report from SDCC promises Unicron will get his own book in 2018, so that means maybe he would be getting to the main books in 2019?
For those keeping track (like me), in mid-2019, Ex-RID/Ex-MTMTE will be clocking in at issue number 88-90ish (depending on how you count).
I am literally buzzing with excitement.
As much as I like the space god version, maybe you will get your wish? Creating a planet-sized super weapon that runs amok killing inorganic species seems to TOTALLY be the sort of thing the Galatic Council would do.
About the only way I could comprehend "WHY?" would be if Hasbro simply had a toy Unicron coming...
Well after Scorponok and Omega Supreme he would likely be the next titan toy.
He was hinted in Cyclonus's origin story
Also in The Death of Optimus Prime. OP at one point mentions "Primus or his opposite" when wondering why he's not dead and where he is.
It's all going to come down to how he's portrayed. We know he's going to have his classic design, but what is he going to be?
Though color me intrigued by him having his own comic series. Though I'm not sure how he could carry a comic...
That's probably going to take TAAO's slot.
Remember when Simon restarted this thing and wanted no Matrix and no Unicron?
If it was hinted before in the annual mentioning the Primus and the Guiding Hand?
Then one have no other option but to conclude that IDW kept lying to their readers... Because all this time nobody recalled their "no Unicron" statement.
Yes, lying. There's creating suspense and there's going bait & switch.
Now, there's nothing really different in D-Void and Dead Universe than Unicron in terms how they worked story-wise. Never was. Both are essentially 3P Not-Unicrons *wink, wink*. Especially D-Void. This always was very silly of them to act like "we're so fresh and original so NO UNICRON!!!" and then to introduce something that worked in every way the same as Unicron save for the name and character model.
But it also means that IDW could cut the comedy long time ago instead of looking pretentious back then and silly right now.
That would be the absolute best, maybe even have it that they base their weapon on a Cybertronian deity to really mess with them, you get Unicron, and keep the mythos mystery of being true or not in tact.
Wow, you lot are the life of the party.
I don't remember IDW ever making that statement. It was just Furman stating that as a general rule for himself after doing so many Primus and Unicron stories.
There've been hints at Unicron for ages, especially in RiD #10. Barber even said at NC Comicon earlier this year that Dark Cybertron was originally going to end with a tease at Unicron. This was happening sooner or later.
Unicron was always coming and is gonna be a god, so stop acting surprised!
I would much prefer some crazy and sinister Unicron worshippers to Unicron himself as his actual appearance has only ever lived up to the hype once or twice often being a bit of let down.
Also being such a final boss to the franchise after he has been and gone most continuities struggle to successfully keep momentum and don't last too longer after.
As long as it's done well. By the time Infiltration came around, I think we were all sick of Unicron as "final boss" in every franchise--the eponymous trilogy, the Marvel comics, the 1986 Movie, even featuring in Beast Wars and Dreamwave. But other than Aligned, we haven't seen a Unicron in a while, so IDW might be able to do something interesting with it.
