For a while now I've had in my possession a Energon Hot Shot (Not to be confused with 'Energon Energon Hot Shot') with a silver painted face as opposed to the common tan color. This IS NOT the Takara version from Superlink, as the body retains the U.S. colors and the face ISN'T the tweaked remold. I had found it at a Toys R Us in the overheard bins at the tail-end of Energon.

Now I had heard of this variation maybe only once in passing on the message boards, and that was it. It wasn't not unlike the rumored running-change on Powerlinx Hot Shot from Armada with painted red foreheads. There doesn't seem to be any documentation of Energon Hot Shots with silver faces that I know of.

Does anybody know what the deal is? Or, to make this thread interesting, does anybody have any similiar items to this? A variation of a toy that for all you know doesn't really exist?

My freind had the silver face while I had the grey face.

It's documented. If it's been said on the interenet it's been regonized. I'm sure almost everyone who has him has known of it.

This is the first I have heard of it. I had no idea there was a variant.

I had no idea there was a variation either. I'll have to check and see which one I have, though if the silver face was a running change towards the end of 'regular' Hot Shot's production run I'm sure mine is the first release since i got it when the line was first released.

It has been recognized. I remember hearing atleast three cases including mine. (Four including yours)

I beleive it was deduced that all of the Hotshots in the initial run were grey, then the change to silver took affect.

See, I was right. Just because people haven't heard of it doesn't mean it wasn't documented.

I guess it's an obscure/not widely known variation, then. This link is really interesting, SPLIT LIP. I'm glad you posted it. Now would you say that silver-faced Hot Shot is more show-accurate than the Takara version?

Yeah well....damn. Still news to me, I wasn't as big a fan then and thus only kept up with new releases, variations werent as big an issue to me back then.

I had 3 of these, and they were all grey-faced. I had no idea there was a silver variant, though I did paint one face silver. :)
