One thing that annoyed me is that I was accused of beign against other people's opinions despite saying a million times I wasn't. I don't personally like the overwhelming sense of positivity. I do not want to remove people's right, however, to be overwhelmingly positive about it. There's a difference. Someone tried to report my posts in an other thread, which I think is wrong as it's silencing someone else - it was based on the fact that I was opposing someone's opinion, or rather their attack on a certain group of people, rather than it being in any "bad". This is a genuinely quite fascist thing to do, and after I got really angry and upset, I got thinking how I could get people to realise something important. So here's my idea. In this Thread, what I would like to happen, personally, is that people could post their opinions, no matter what it is, in the manner they see fit, as strongly as they like, as long as it is respectful. How this differs from the other threads is that Nobody can challenge anyone else's opinion, no matter what they say, including me. That includes using terms like Hater or Apolgoist. Since there can be no flaming, there should be no issue with people expressing any opinion they wish. Limited criticism of the community's reaction to the movie too - but again, no weighted terms, just comments on the overall reaction, if you feel there's too much negativity, or positivity, but please back your points with good, commonly occuring examples. Nothing that could be taken personally, is what I'm getting at. This is not a "discussion" thread, it is a freewheeling archive of random thought and opinion. This doesn't mean I think it's wrong to ever challenge anyone else's opinion all of a sudden, just that there should be a single space that's completely without conflict, but not without assertion. I have no jurisdiction over this board, obviously, cannot and am not commanding anyone, so this in itself is a test of respect. If you respect opposing opinion, I don't see why you would flame this post, or any other in this thread, including. Think of it as a game. I really think this board needs it. Good luck.
I loved it. I had a grin on my face the whole time like a 10 year old kid hopped up on some sugar filled breakfast cereal sitting in front of the TV watching cartoons on Saturday morning, and that's exactly how I felt too - like I was a kid again. I haven't seen a movie this fun in a very long time, there were parts that made me uncontrollably exclaim "holy shit!!!" Genuinely awesome special effects, bone shatteringly brutal fights, and giant robots from outer space. Yes - I loved it.
In before locked !! I never get the hate of Micheal Bay, most hear his name they just jump on him, even those who know shit about him, espacially some long gone new posters kept posting the wrong movies (from Hulk to Independence Days). I have watched almost all his previous movies (except Pearl harbor, I never like its history since my friends that time kept made fun of the trailer), I liked all of them. As for the movie ? Describing it as awesome is only an understatement. I had alot of fun watching it, I wooo while Bonecrusher transformed, I wooo while Ironhide made a rocket jump and I wooo when Barricade chase Bumblebee. I never had this mindless fun for some time, as my niece said my "movie taste is very serious". I need to be entertained. Period.
I am excited for it, already own several toys, but realise it's flaws and hype and think there needs to be a lot more general acceptance of people who may be upset by it, and that no movie can be perfect.
Overall, I liked it. I have nitpicks that could have made it a much better movie, but I can't wait for TF2.
Because that's a review topic, this is for general thoughts, there's a rather large different. That way people can't say "Hey, your review only has six words and it's all rambling about how Ratchet is coloured like Earwax". This can be for people who haven't seen it, either. If someone does genuinely change their opinion either way, it can be documented here.
You know, if you really did want this thread to succeed, you wouldn't jump to respond back to people who might question it. Just ignore, move on and take the high road.
I think the movie was perfect. I found no flaws with it, and very much enjoyed myself. Just saw it again tonight, and still had that sense of wonder throughout the movie. A+++ from me!
Best movie of my entire life! I absolutely loved it. I found nothing wrong with it either. According to my friends my jaw was on the floor the entire movie. I didn't even know!!
Also in before inevitable lock... I loved it. I sat there with a theater of people with their mouths open oooing and ahhhing and feeling like a kid again. I felt like my 23 years of adoring the property were totally rewarded. Big props to everyone involved.
I wasn't real sure about the designs and was very skeptical of the movie before seeing it. I did anyway though. My new sig pretty much sums up my feelings about it.
Just got back from the movie and trying to post coherent thought is quite difficult. The one thing I can say for sure is that probably was the single best movie experience of my 38 year lifetime. I'm staying the hell outta the "review" post since about half of the "reviews" are either just plain stupid, or are thinly veiled soapboxes for haters, and I'm not gonna fall into that. All I can say at this point is if you have a shred of love for Transformers and call yourself a fan, then you are doing yourself a colossal disservice if you don't go see this movie. Fuck this whining about Michael Bay, fuck this nitpicking over the "designs" (which to this point people have only seen in a limited fashion)....none of this whiny slag can possibly justify not seeing this movie. Some random thoughts: The Good Cullen as Prime....'nuff said The transformations were incredible and a real sight to behold The "shaky camera" scenes weren't as bad as some have said Crying at the injuries to Bumblebee and Jazz were a bit unexpected but awesome all the same. Emotionally intense scenes FTW! The sheer magnitude of the bots, their fluidity of motion, and the sheer IMPACT of their actions were mind blowing. People that simply say "Michael Bay blows things up good" don't get it. The Decepticons' viciousness (especially Megatron) was refreshing. Surprisingly, Megan Fox wasn't just your average movie babe that can't act. The Bad The cheesy humor was a bit overdone I thought that Weaving would be a perfect Megs, but I found his voicing kind of lacking. Some scenes were a bit too predictable Erm, where was Starscream going at the end? I could probably think of more if I weren't on such a darned fanboyish high right now. If there are any logical thinking people on this board that are still leaning heavily toward the hater side, PLEASE try to go see the movie. At least give it a chance to change your mind!
The good: Amazing special effects Generally good robot acting Comedy that was actually funny The "Autobots in my backyard" scene was gold, along with Sam's parents. The less good: Do we have to keep doing that handheld shaky camera crap in every battle scene? I get that it's supposed to be all frantic, but I'd like for my eyes to be able to track what's going on. The whole "Allspark zaps a bunch of stuff" bit felt kinda tacked on and relatively pointless. Guess I was expecting more out of it. One particularly stunningly low-brow moment with Bumblebee (no spoilers, but I'm sure everyone who's seen it knows exactly what I'm referring to) - just felt totally unneccessary and out of place with the rest of the tone of the movie. All IMO, of course. Also FWIW, seeing the movie has not totally sold me on the robot designs, as some suggest it might. Interstingly, my father mentioned that the extra-complex transformations seemed 'unrealistic' to him.
I really enjoyed the movies and it was well worth the money. All of the misconceptions and general prejudice about a new take on the story was uncalled for, I'm sitting at the table and am about to eat a large serving of crow.
i understand the distinction dudes trying to make between this thread and the review thread. but the result is actually the same. so whatever. i like it. its not perfect, but considering im not big on bay-isms (excessive camera work, glossed over detail, poor story editing) i like it more than i should. also, the overwhelming reaction its been getting from non fans also warms the cockles of my black jaded heart. have at you!
Random thought: After 2 viewings, I've found that I think of the film less as a Michael Bay work, and more as an ILM work that he happened to be a main supporter for.
