How did optimus learn how to fly

He has a jetpack, a flying device. All you really need to know is how to control it. But I imagine Wheeljack told him how.

 

He flapped his arms really, really fast. It sometimes works in a Loony Toons cartoon.

 

He repeatedly listened to a certain song by R. Kelly. And clutched a magic feather.

DotM wasn't Optimus's first time flying. He at least had experience with Jetfire's parts, I wouldn't be surprised if he had jetpacks back on Cybertron.

EDIT: If we're going to be silly:
He thinks of Christmas, thinks of snow, thinks of sleigh bells, and off he goes like reindeer in the sky.

How does Optimus fly? All it takes is faith and trust. And maybe some of Tinker Bell's butt-dust.

 

He just has to believe.

 

Maybe he just downloaded JetPackPilot.exe from a torrent site and installed it one day?

I figured after he did his magic return in RoTF, he probably had QueJack fix him up with the required programs and system upgrades.

I think it would have made more sense for his trailer to turn into a sublifter/flying platform to be honest. Like a Gouf from Gundam, or Megatron standing on Starscreams back and surfing his through the air.
