    Ultra Magnus WIP- Small Update

Ok so here is a bashing from several different figures. I always loved the City Commander ad on set but hated having to take all the parts apart to transform. Loved the Animated figure for several reasons but hated the Animated look. This takes the best from both worlds and wraps them into one! I was excited to see the new Voyager mold for Prime but the small scale really threw me off. I still have to rework the chest to better resemble the G1ish look and fill in the gap of the abdomen as well as add some paint. Luckily most of the colors here are a pretty good match. I used Energon Shockblasts thighs as they were a perfect fit without mods which adds more articulation. All parts fit perfectly in alt-mode (pics to come). Pretty happy with the progress so far!

UPDATE- at 10/20 did some minor paint apps, still have to finish lower torso. Getting hard to be motivated for finishing this. May have to repaint entire figure to get the blue to match

My personal beef other than the chest with AUM was the wonky shoulders. You can't pose without them looking like they are dislocated. Have you thought of some way to "deal with that"? :banghead:

The shoulders don't bother me too much, but the head is set back more and the new chest design sits a bit farther back as well which is more proportionate with the shoulders. Slight update of the new chest WIP above

Havn't fully decided yet. I do have a pair that could work but wasn't sure if it was gonna be overkill on armaments (I know, imagine that).

Very cool. I really enjoyed the design of Animated Ultra Magnus, especially since it's more common to see him as a repaint than original figure. But yea, not having an Animated collection makes him stand out like a sore thumb.

Definitely looking forward to seeing him de-Animated and in a Classics-friendly format.

This is looking soo cool. Can you take a pic of him without the shoulder cannons? or are you planning on always keeping them up? I think it could change the look of him quite a bit.

You know, after seeing Animated Magnus the first time, I wanted the same Classics-styled figure, but I personally thought it would be easier to just start with a Cybertron Defense First Aid.

One thing that has me a bit worried: Isn't City Commander a fair bit smaller than Leader Magnus? I'm wondering if, once the shoulder cannons are folded back, the CC head might look too small on that body.

Actually I think the head looks fine on this body, makes him look more powerful

The head size is why I was curious about the cannons being flipped back. i think it looks great!

Huh, yeah, looks fine. It's just the overly-large shoulders throwing me off.

By the by, do those shoulders still fold up higher? As they are now, the arms look a bit stubby, even if they are proportionately long enough.

Yes they do, I may wind up changing the forearms. Not too happy wth how they sit in
    robot mode.

Very cool. De-animating Animated figures is a good thing. Looks great!

    NICE!

I've wanted to do something like this with Magnus for a long time, either for Magnus or other characters. I love this mold, but I'm sure part of that is how easily it can take on a non-Animated aesthetic. Interesting that the Shockblast legs fit... I just happen to have a spare set of those...

I'll be watching this one. :)

This is the one part I think doesn't match the awesomeness of the rest of the figure, if you can swap that out with something else it would probably work out even better.

That said, wow, nice work! Can we see some alt mode pics? I too always liked the way ultra magnus is designed in animated but don't like animated look in general.
