Well, he's complete. However, the picture process is still in the works (got to it late last night) I'll have the rest up on my site and some here (Ultra Magnus / Super Armor mode) tomorrow!!!

In the meantime, I have 2 sneak peeks pics. Also, click the link here to see something very cool. This is a quick version, the final will have more segments within the rotation, to provide a smoother animation...

I read a book about doing those 360° rotations for product advertising / websites, and thought it would be cool to merge with one of my favorite things to do. Quite simple really, just need to take more "in between" pictures so the animation is smoother. There's always next time.

do you mean ultra magnus G1 colors? I'd never touch a movie figure with that bright teal-blue and tellatubby red, but might one day revisit this mold in a optimus prime g1 theme (no flames, mostly red)

I was just reading and talking about these things with someone myself, very cool. How many frames does it recommend for a smoother look?

The animations you're seeing are only about 15-20 frames. I plan to shoot for 40 next photo shoot.

I think there's more preparation to get it to look right, for example, drawing a clock like map on the base, and moving it the same distance each frame, and marking (with a laser from above) the center of the object (too keep it rotating on a perfect axis)

The best idea would be to actually build a lazy-sue (stupid name) setup which had marks around the perimeter and a base to click it 1 position for each frame.

Yeah, Kyle Robinson did some Quicktime based ones a while back, flash seems like a nicer way. Do you have a link to a "good" tutorial by chance? Share the wealth. =)

Is the super mode the same as the previous one, or are you making more mods?

Super Mode's gonna be similar to the previous. The commissioner wants it similar to v1...
I wish I had time for a super super mode. The next 'big' thing on my plate is finishing up Devastator!

that's funny. i think the G1 colors ARE magnus - i strongly prefer them - not a fan of the all white magnus... but too each his own
    excellent work regardless.

no, from past experience, the best way to do it is to set up your camera on a tripod, facing a rotating circular platform, and place the toy in the exact centre of the platform, that way you will get smooth motion, consistent lighting, and no camera movement.

If you use a white painted platform against a matching white painted background with good strong lighting, you can photoshop out the seam between the two in each frame very easily and quickly - or you could even incorporate the old curved-piece-of-white-paper trick into the platform (between the top and the base) and again photoshop out the edges.

if you don't happen to have a rotating circular platform (who does??) then it shouldn't be hard to make, especially for someone practically-minded like a kitbasher

I wondering about that one. Looking forward to it. I asked about the super mode cause I wanted to see if you better integrated the weapons into the carrier. Still a lot of kickassery though!

great job FR. looks great as always. Hey, have you ever thought of using a cheap radio controller anteana for the stacks??? I have been pondering this, but I cant really find a way to mount them so that they would acctually colapse into themselves.

hehe that's a cool idea, but why hide them? they give him height and i think they look cool in bot mode. My site has the tutorial how to make these guys!
