I'm not totally sure on that, unless McGuinness got a head start; there were several fill-ins during his run on SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN/BATMAN did get delayed once (but only one issue) on the first arc (I'm not counting the the third arc he and Loeb did since that occured around the time Sam Loeb died, and made understandable delays).

I think we should be concerned about finishing volume 3 before we even begin to think about 4, to be blunt.

McGuinness and Loeb, though...wasn't that the team that started Batman/Superman? Definitely a departure from Millar/Hitch, but I'll keep an open mind on the matter.

Hell, I'm surprised they announced this considering v2 isn't even done.

Well, I bet Joe and Jeph are getting started on Vol. 3 since they know how Vol. 2 is ending. I just hope they get enough of a lead in to make the book ship on time. No idea why they just don't make it bi monthly anyway.

If marvel was smart, here's what they currently would be/are doing:

    - Finish V2. We know it was extended one issue, or rather, instead of one final 12, they made it smaller and added 13. Okay.
    - As soon as Loeb was signed, he began writing V3. We know he was signed last august and hasn't done anything Marvel yet.
    - As soon as Joe was signed, they handed him the script to V3 and said, "Start drawing." So currently, he should have some issues (if not all of them) in the bag by the time V2 finishes.
    - As soon as they knew they were signing McGuinness, get Loeb on V4. While V3 is being put out, have McGuinness start on V4.

    Which hopefully they are doing.

Ultimates 4? Great, hopefully I'll be able to pick up the end of 2, 3 and 4 by the time I retire.

Judging from the WIZARD interview re: Loeb/Campbell Spider-Man (which indicated Loeb was showing J. Scott Campbell some Madureira ULTIMATES 3 pages) and Rob Liefeld's recent comments (he was at Loeb's house and managed to sneak a peak at a few pages)--it sounds like Madureira's already gotten at least some pages done.

Only thing is that we don't know how many issues are finished.

Yeah, or if it will make a difference. Hitch had the first 3 or 4 done before they shipped the first issue and it did nothing in the long run.

    Could be tasty.

I love Mad, but he's seriously slow with his own stuff. I hope with someone else paying his cheque he speeds up a bit.

I think that all depends on if they need an extra year to get V2 #12 and 13 out.

Also, looking at the shipping history...

    ULTIMATES #1: January 30, 2002
    ULTIMATES #2: February 27, 2002
    ULTIMATES #3: March 27, 2002
    ULTIMATES #4: May 1, 2002
    ULTIMATES #5: July 10, 2002
    ULTIMATES #6: August 14, 2002
    ULTIMATES #7: October 30, 2002
    ULTIMATES #8: January 15, 2003
    ULTIMATES #9: March 12, 2003
    ULTIMATES #10: May 29, 2003
    ULTIMATES #11: July 30, 2003
    ULTIMATES #12: December 3, 2003
    ULTIMATES #13: March 31, 2004

    ULTIMATES 2 #1: December 1, 2004
    ULTIMATES 2 #2: January 12, 2005
    ULTIMATES 2 #3: February 9, 2005
    ULTIMATES 2 #4: March 16, 2005
    ULTIMATES 2 #5: April 13, 2005
    ULTIMATES 2 #6: May 25, 2005
    ULTIMATES 2 #7: July 20, 2005
    ULTIMATES 2 #8: September 21, 2005
    ULTIMATES 2 #9: December 7, 2005
    ULTIMATES 2 #10: March 1, 2006
    ULTIMATES 2 #11: June 21, 2006

The strange thing is that in both cases so far, #1-11 actually took the same number of months to ship, even though the scheduling for ULTIMATES 2 looks more consistant comparing to the first volume. Now we gotta find out if it takes an extra eight months to finish it.

You know what's weird though? AUTHORITY #1-12 (the Ellis/Hitch arc) shipped mostly on time, with the exception being #5, however 5 and 6 shipped on the same month so it still kept it on schedule.

    Oh good, Joe Mad.

So, it'll go 7 issues of random on-timeness. Then we wait 14 months for another issue. Then we find out he quit doing the comic to make video games.

"Ed. What are your favorite things about Captain America to draw?
McGUINNESS: He’s a super-soldier. He’s the kind of guy that would give Batman a fight. That’s the aspect that I want to come from with him. He’s just so iconic, and the toughest guy alive. I just want to push that central element. I want to see Cap do things like he’s done before—like fight the Hulk! He’s just a guy! [Laughs] Who fights the Hulk? That sort of thing."

... He already faught the Hulk.

and wow sometimes I forget that Ultimates is supposed to come out every month.
